When do you worry about a cough?

If you've had a persistent cough for 3 weeks see your GP.

I would not necessarily worry, but see a GP if I'd had it for more than 3 weeks or before that if it was a very severe cough.

I had a bad, chesty cough a couple of years ago which was making me breathless and my heart rate was over 100. I reluctantly went to gp after one week and he sent me straight to hospital where I was admitted and given iv antibiotics.
