Statins and hunger

Just wanted a moan and see if anyone else is in the same boat. Recently went on statins due to familial hyper cholesterol

Last year I worked very hard to lose 40lbs and have been trying to continue that this year - so far I'm maintaining but the last 3 weeks I've been on statins and my hunger is off the scale crazy the last week or so... it's gradually increased since I've been taking them

I've always had a large appetite anyway but I was managing it just fine til now! I eat very a nutritious low GI, high protein, high fibre diet as that is the most filling combination I've found for me and it's been brilliant til now.

What the hell can I do? I'm really bothered by this and tempted to actually look into having a gastric band. I can't be hungry like this all the time

should add I am still very obese despite the loss - enough so that I would probably qualify for NHS gastric surgery (BMI is 42 but was very close to 50 this time last year)

You've done amazingly. Statins have some weird effects but they're not all the same. People are usually started on the cheapest ( simvastatin is one ) but you can ask to try a different one and see if your hunger eases off.

Thank you. I'm seeing the doctor this week to ask about different ones. |I'm on lipitor at the moment (atorvastatin)
