feeling rather smug cos i'm now past the recomemended amount as laid down by the govt. Don't see how i can do it every day though, it takes a lot of effort. How far do you walk?

thats rather fantastic, I am only at 5303 steps but to be fair I normally do my "big" walk at night when the littlest one is in bed, I normally get to between 10,000 and 12,000. This however is a new thing in last 2 weeks, I joined Weight watchers and walking is my exercise.

I agree some days it feels like I am putting loads of effort in to get to my target, whilst others it seems to happen without me noticing

11363 now, i've been at yoga, cycled there and back but have consequently only done 900 steps in the last 4.5 hours!! You just have to get it in early i think - a bit like the fruit and veg thing really, the more you get down you before elevenses, the easier it is

I have walked 8133 and still to do my "big" walk later so will get to around 12000.

My pedometer is new and I am quite obsessed with it

coppertop · 15/05/2007 19:55

I haven't worn my pedometer for a few weeks but I do about 75,000 - 80,000 steps a week. We have no car so I generally walk everywhere.

tullytwo · 15/05/2007 20:00

Do you count in all steps - like you just put it on in the morning and count in any steps you take - doesnt have to be all in one go?

Where can I get a good pedometer and what is the recommended amount of daily steps please

hayes · 15/05/2007 20:02

I put mines on as soon as I get dressed and take it off at bedtime, it counts your steps throughout the day. I have the Weight Watchers one (£13) but only cos I am dieting too and works out any extra activity points for me. You can get them for a couple of quid in Lloyds.

Recomended steps, 10,000 per day

Thankyou

Like coppertop, I don't have a car and average around 70,000 per week. (waves to coppertop...an old member of the defunct 'pedometer club').

The tricky part for me was getting my stride programmed correctly into the pedometer. Before I had figured out how to do it, the pedometer was registering either too much (which felt good, but sadly wasn't accurate), or too little (which was discouraging).

Must say though, that during school holidays my totals plummet. Clearly without the school run my motivation is not as strong!

coppertop · 15/05/2007 20:45

I think my total will probably drop a bit when ds2 starts school in September and I no longer have to do the pre-school run/walk.

yogabird · 15/05/2007 21:12

been standing ironing all night and catching up on chat on the phone cunningly clipped to my tea shirt whilst i multi tasked with the iron therefore no further steps registered. On second glass of wine and getting past caring now (hic!) must do better tomorrow!
