...And no weight gain, mood swings etc, also comes with free sports car... Or am I expecting too much? Just SOOOOO don't want a coil, but equally don't want a LO!

if there was, the person who invented it would be a millionaire.

You need a prescription for Tranxaemic acid and a partner with a big cheque book.

whats tranxaemic acid? Sounds like something to unblock drains!

my friend went on the dianette and it gave her bigger boobs....I want her boobs as it happens, duno if it works for everyone. Are you allowed ot ask for a certain pill by name???

foxinsocks · 12/05/2007 19:54

I spelt it wrong! tranexamic acid - if you have very heavy bleeding, the doc can prescribe it and it can make you bleed a lot less

imnot27 · 12/05/2007 19:56

I have heard that of dianette too. I do bleed quite heavily, but probably not enough to be prescribed something for it. Just thinking that if I have to go back on pill, I want the one with the most benefits possible!

Dianette has higher risks too, as it's a higher dose of hormones....

Bear in mind that your boobs may get bigger, but if the do, it will almost certainly hurt like fury. I was on Dianette for very good medical reasons, and had to walk with my arms folded for almost a year as even going up/down steps jolted them more than I could bear!

If you want lighter periods, then an IUS rather than an IUD may be the way to go. It's plastic rather than copper, and releases a very low dose of contraceptive hormone in the uterus.

Why don't you want a coil?

imnot27 · 12/05/2007 20:10

Just heard a few horror stories, also pregnancies with coil in!

Am on Dianette, boobs are bigger, were sore for a few months but not so bad now.
Periods a bit lighte.
I take it for my acne which is clearing too.
Did have a mirena but played avoc wih my skin and I out on weight ( have now lost it)

imnot27: I'd got to your local family planning clinic (if you have one!) and ask about risks/benefits. They'll have more up-to-date stats on e.g. pregnancies on the pill vs. coil or low-dose modern pills vs. Dianette or similar.

Alternatively, the USA has a very good online encylopedia at the national institutes of health which might be worth a look.

Hi Harman

If your periods are very heavy then you ought to be referred to a gynae asap to see if fibroids are an issue. I am wondering also if your GP suspects fibroids. Things like transexamic acid are only a short term measure; it does nothing to address any underlying problem.

EvilSmellingBugger · 13/05/2007 08:14

Dianette made me really moody, I turned into a right cow and I put on weight.

colditz · 13/05/2007 08:39

That would be the pill delivered by firemen, that also tones your abs and deposits £20000 in your bank weekly, while taking the bins out and getting those nasty browinsh stains out of the u bend.

In short, the Magic pill.

Blandmum · 13/05/2007 08:57

Probably not!

The oestrogen in the pill is the hormone that makes the boobs grow, it is also the hormone that causes the build of of lining of the endometrium that is lost as the period bleed. so you tend to get the one/get the other.

However the mix of oestrogens and diferent types of progestogens can also have an effect, and different mixes affect different women in different ways. So it might be worth shopping around a bit

That said, the higher does oestrogen pills (the older ones) tend to have more of the serious side effects. So it might not be worth the risk.
