Hello ladies, I hope you don't mind me posting but I have nobody else to ask.

Myself and my husband (both 34) have decided we do not want children
I have spoken to my doctor who agreed to refer me after going through all my options
Coil / snip etc.

I have a couple of questions I can't find answe to ao home someone can give advice

What happens at my first appointment?
I am assuming they go through my options again? if I stand my ground can they still refuse to do it?

Does this appointment set a date or do you usually need more appointments?

Lastly I have no idea how to break it to our parents that it's official.

I wouldn't assume it will just be given, especially on the NHS.
Most people have to really fight for it, even after having kids.
The consequences of changing your mind are obviously pretty serious and so drs prefer contraception over sterilisation.

Thanks dcaredofthecity. I have been reading up and understood the biggest challenge was getting a teferral from the doctor. I. Can't find many posts about the hospital consultation.

We only really do it after c section in the hospital I work. When I asked one of the surgeons about it he said that 70% of patients later regretted it. That sounds pretty high to me and I haven't seen any evidence to back this up but may explain their reluctance to do it.

Thank you for your reply. We have been together for 18 year. The older I get the more I am sure it's not for me
