5 weeks post partum period????

Hi everyone, this is my first post and hope someone can help.
I had my second baby 5 weeks ago and had totally normal delivery with minimal blood loss and recovered quickly. My bleeding finally tapered off last week at 4 weeks, less than a week later (2 days ago) I started bleeding fresh red blood. This co incided with my baby sleeping a bit longer at night so I’m not breastfeeding as often as I was (I’m talking going from every hour to around every 3/4 hours) so I thought it was related to that. However 2 days later it’s still pretty heavy ish and is exactly like my period, I’ve even got bad period type cramps and slight back ache. I also feel generally run down and a bit rubbish. (But no fever) im not filling a pad every hour and there’s no clots or anything. I’m exclusively breast feeding so I wasn’t expecting my period to return so quick. With my first it didn’t xome back until a few weeks after I stopped breastfeeding altogether at around 5 months. Is this my period or does it sound like it could be something else??? If it continues for longer than a week or gets heavier I will contact my doctor

I wouldn't wait that long to be honest, try to go to your doctors ASAP. It might be a continuation of your post partum bleed or it could be an infection. I had one and needed antibiotics. Just get it checked out.

Thanks. I’ll ring the Doctors tomorrow and see what they say. I’ve already been on antibiotics twice since giving birth once for a UTI and once for an ear infection so I hope it isn’t and it’s just my period returning or a one off final bleed. Can I ask did u have any other symptoms apart from the bleeding?

With my first I didn't get a period for 8 months, with my second and third I got one 4 and 5 weeks after them. Everything else was the same, exclusively breastfeeding etc.

If its like a normal period I wouldn't worry.

No other symptoms but bright red fresh blood. Diagnosed by having a temperature. It's probably absolutely nothing to worry about but with such a small baby I wouldn't wait. Doctor won't mind seeing you and checking you over.

Hello :) I didn’t, only because it kept getting lighter, then 2 days later completely stopped and I haven’t had anything since! So I’m assuming it was either my period or just the final bit of lochia. I guess I’ll know if it returns next month and I’m just an unlucky one breastfeeding and periods returning. :/ thanks for checking back in :)
