IBD but bloods and stool came back normal...

So I've been suffering a while now with abdominal pain, it's generally painful everywhere but tender points towards lower left and central stomach/pelvis area.

Since I had my gallbladder removed I have bouts of diarrhoea/loose stools which are normally followed by bouts of constipation.
At the moment I've been getting all the stomach pain symptoms but normal bowel movements with some mucus here and there.

I basically keep being told it's most likely IBD but my bloods and stool sample came back normal for inflammation but I have low iron.

I think I also have reflux as I get a lot of heartburn and intense burning under my ribs, more on my right side than left.
Also have this weird tightening around the left side of my stomach.

I'm having some swabs done as I've been suffering with painful sex as well though she thinks that's separate to my stomach problems.

Do people who suffer with IBD even have normal blood results? I would have expected something to show up if it was that really.

Sounds about right. I’ve has Ibd for years and constantly suffer in pain get bloods are always fine. Have they organised for you to have a colonoscopy?

They booked me a sigmoidoscopy and then I panicked and cancelled it :(
That was several months ago now.

I don't get blood in my stool, and I've not had any weight loss either, I just don't seem to fit the typical symptoms yet I'm being told it's most likely that.

I've got another appt in about a month so I will probably raise being referred again.

Could it be Irritable bowed syndrome rather than inflammatory bowel syndrome as your investigations are normal?

Feelings · 12/04/2018 07:52

Well I'd be more inclined to say so, yes.
I suppose I will just have to get referred for a proper diagnosis.

I have IBS and belong to quite a few support forums, there are lots of people on them who have had the same symptoms as you since having their gall bladders removed. If you Google that it will come up with endless problems like you are experiencing. Have you asked your doctor if this could contribute to your problems?

Yes I did and she spoke to a consultant gastroenterologist who said that it's very typical post cholestectomy to get pain.
He was very vague though, the pain is sometimes worse than having the gallstones which is just unbelievable really!

I'll give it a google anyway, thanks.
