Dental issue - dry socket

Hello, looking for some advice.
I have quite bad health anxiety and the thought of having dry socket is making me nervous.

I had to go to the dentist on Wednesday as I had a bit of toothache where my molar was previously removed, the dentist carried out an x-ray and it turned out two roots were left, so he removed them. After it I was in agony for that full day, I was in tears at one point (I have quite a high pain threshold), I took paramol and it the pain went away. My neck started to swell and the pain was coming and going but fine as I was taking paramol. I visited the dentist on Friday as my neck and jaw was swollen still, the dentist told me I had dry socket and he said it sounded like it was nearly over but he would clean it, pack it and give me antibiotics. The hole isn't big as it was only two roots. It's been four days and my issue is I'm reading online the pain is unbearable, it lasts weeks etc but I'm not in pain, should I be expecting the pain to hit me in a few days? Sorry for the long post but I hate dental pain and I should never Google things Easter Sad

Hi Cameron, I sympathise as I have had a lot of dental woes over the past year, and scared myself silly by Googling! The packing stuff the dentist put in (probably tastes of cloves and feels fibrous?) encourages the socket to heal up and soothes the pain, so hopefully you will be fine. If you need to, go back and he can re-pack it, but even if it looks like it’s fallen out, there’s probably some left - the hole will be pretty deep. Take care and try not to worry too much, but it’s likely your dentist will have slots kept aside for pain/emergencies each day if you do need to call in.
