Hi,
My ds3 is 2 & has asthma.Having had awful cough for 10 days & up to max. intake of blue inhaler (10 puffs at a time per. G.P)
I TOOK him to Doc. to explain he wasn't well.
Anyway she has given him 5 day course of prednisolone ,(STEROIDS DISSOLVE IN WATER)which she says will help his cough which is particularly bad a t night.
What I am wondering is 2 days into the 5 day course his cough is no better at all.
Can anyone tell me does prednisolone take a bit of time to work ? Have I not given it long enough to get into his system yet?
ANY aDVICE APPRECIATED.

In my experience (with DD1 at various times when she was between 3 and about 9) it acts very quickly. There was 1 instance when it was touch and go whether she needed to go to hospital. GP decided to try prednisolone first and said if breathing wasn't improved in 4 hours dramatically to go to A&E .. by that time breathing was sooo much better we didn't need to go. I think I would go back to GP - doesn't your DS have any preventer inhalers .. I would ask about these while you are there if I were you. Hope he's better soon.

I agree with fuchsia. When my dd was prescribed prednisolone for her asthma (a 3 day course) I noticed an improvement by the next morning. She also had that terrible night cough, so I sympathise. You will both feel better when he gets some sleep! I would go back to GP and ask to try something else.
