Does this sound like a slight allergy?

I quite like nuts and often have a handful for an afternoon snack. The past 10 days or so I've had a slightly swollen tongue most evenings, not dangerous or anything, just a bit noticeable. This evening my tongue is normal and it has occurred to me that I haven't had any nuts today.

What makes me think that it's probably not an allergy is that I've been eating nuts my whole life and never had a problem, except sometime having a slight tickly cough after hazelnuts, but that's probably to do with their texture. What makes me think it could be an allergy is that I have tree-pollen hay fever at the moment and at this time of year I often become sensitive to things that are ok the rest of the year, like skin care or laundry powder for white clothes.

It could be Oral Allergy Syndrome. Its linked to tree pollen allergies.

My DS has it and his tongue/mouth/lips swell up at very random foods. It's not a true allergy.

I've never heard of that. I will Google it, thanks.

You could be developing an allergy to nuts but I think that's quite rare.

I've had a look on Wiki and it does specifically link hazelnuts quite strongly to tree pollen hayfever, especially birch pollen which affects me hugely. I'll probably just give up nuts until the end of May to avoid the discomfort.

I'm glad I asked, thanks FridayNightFun.

Glad to have imparted some useful knowledge on this otherwise completely unproductive evening.
