Tooth infection after root canal

Hey guys I thought I would write about my experience as it was a very painful recovery and figured it could help others in the same boat!

The dentist took x-rays and I was told I had an infection in a previous root canal that was done about 10 years ago, I felt no symptoms or pain so I went in a few months later for the re-treatment. In the re-treatment they cleaned out the tooth and placed a temporary filling, I was booked in 3 weeks later for the permanent filling to be done.

However, the very next day my tooth had throbbing and pulsing pain so I took an Advil but that did not work. I then contacted the dentist and they gave me a prescription of pain killers and an antibiotic since there was an infection that was present. I took these pills for about a day and iced it non-stop, only to wake up to a swollen face that only got worse. I contacted the dentist again and they called me in.

The dentist said there had been a flare up, so he then went in and drained some fluids and put some antibacterial medicine on the canals. It is now the next day and I can see the swelling as gone down however it is still very tender and a bit painful.

All in all, it has gotten better since my last visit, so I am hoping it continues to improve so I can be back to normal within the next day or two!
