GP hasn't seen one like that before......

I found a lump in my boob - I waited about a week to see if it went & it didn't

I saw the GP this morning and he was a little disconcerted at my lump

Apparently it feels a bit weird and he hasn't seen one like that before!

I guess I've always been odd!

Reassuringly he doesn't think it's worrying but I have a 2 week referral

Fatty lump possibly or cyst?

OhGoodnessMe · 04/04/2018 18:25

I guess - it was just his reaction

I had one like this, baffled the doc. Got sent for 2 week cancer referral, turned out that I have weird lumpy boobs but nothing sinister!
Good luck with it.

Musicaltheatremum · 04/04/2018 19:02

I send all of my patients with lumpy boobs urgently. You can't tell by feeling though it's pretty obvious when you get a classic malignant one. So I wouldn't worry that the GP has done this.

OhGoodnessMe · 04/04/2018 21:03

I guess I didn't expect him to admit my boob was unusual!

Going a bit stir crazy as I have no-one to talk to about this

My DC graduates in about 6 weeks and DH gets unbearably stressed when I am I'll so I am delaying telling him until it's all over!

I am assuming I'll be fine as I am 50 and boobs are all over the place during peri-menopause....

Panickyarse · 08/04/2018 12:12

It's really frightening having a scare like this - I had a referral as I had a lump under my arm and a suddenly enlarged breast. I was seen on Friday and the staff were fantastic. I had an examination, mammogram, and the results all within 90 minutes! I got the all clear and my issues were due to hormonal breast changes.

It's weird how you seen to put your life 'on-hold' whilst waiting to be seen... it's as if you can't think about anything until you know what's going on. I found the 2 weeks to go painstakingly slow so try and distract yourself anyway you can. I found watching 'the great British bake off' from start on Netflix was my go to distraction Smile

I hope you get your appointment through soon Flowers

swingofthings · 08/04/2018 12:32

My lump was unusual too in that it wasn't thin and long so much that at first I thought it was one of my ribs and it's only after a few weeks that I realised it was above a rib. It turned out to be a cyst. They come in all sort of shapes.

OhGoodnessMe · 08/04/2018 14:06

We are away for a few days - so hopefully that will help

But yes I feel on hold - with job applications (will I cope with a 'big' job if it's bad) to do and an interview (can I take a job knowing I am or might be poorly?)

Mine is sort of sausage shaped I guess and very close to my ribs with hard peas next to it

OP posts:
Dozer · 08/04/2018 14:10

Hope you get the tests and info soon and that it’s something benign.

Continue with the job applications etc, if the worst happens you can withdraw your applications.

Also, telling your H would be sensible. He needs to improve at managing his anxiety about your health and supporting you. All being well this time there could come a time in the future when he needs to step up, for you, or his family or DC. It’s not OK for you to have to manage this alone while emotionally protecting him.

OhGoodnessMe · 08/04/2018 18:32

I know but he has a longterm disability and gets scared when I am ill

Realistically I'll be fine - so I'm disinclined to upset things on a maybe

He will be the first I tell if there is anyting to tell, but I'd rather keep things calm for a little while

Appt is 16th so it's not long now & MN are supporting me Wink

I just wanted to add I think sometimes GPs (like all of us) say something stupid to fill the silence. DH was once told by his GP he was very good looking for his age... as his GP checked his prostate Shock Grin

I hope your referral goes ok OP

FrozenSweetPea · 08/04/2018 20:42

I had a weird lump too. Turned out it was probably just because I had had babies and then lost weight = saggy boobs Grin The lump was always there - just never as obvious with pert, fuller boobs.

Just a few practicalities. When you go for your mammogram/scan either wear your hair back or be prepared to tie it back (they do not want stray hairs and the possible hair product in the machine as it messes with the results). Also take your deodorant with you as you have to wipe what you have on, off - for the same reasons as above - the deodorant can mess with the results. Oh, and wear separates.

Good luck - though am sure you will be fine

OhGoodnessMe · 08/04/2018 20:57

I know anxiouschild - it just really made me laugh!

Thanks frozensweetpea - DC is 21 so I think that's unlikely

The way it feels is almost like the top bit has split and I can feel inbetween to the underneath almost like a hernia

OP posts:
OhGoodnessMe · 08/04/2018 20:59

Whoops the unlikely bit was for anxious too and I forgot to say thanks for the advise to frozensweetpea

D'oh! I think I'll blame it all on stress rather than stupidity or maybe menopause Wink

OP posts:
OhGoodnessMe · 08/04/2018 21:01

Actually I'm in a total muddle ignore me Hmm

Sorry

We'll be here, offering a handhold lass.

The time will pass, so as PP said, keep doing the job applications and keep doing your thing.

OhGoodnessMe · 08/04/2018 21:56

A bit more coherent now I hope

I meant to say
"I know anxiouschild - it just really made me laugh!

Thanks frozensweetpea - DC is 21 so I think that's unlikely - thanks for the practical advise"

That looks better doesn't it

& thanks MrsMozart - I appreciate it - I have a job trial tomorrow.....

OP posts:
OhGoodnessMe · 15/04/2018 13:00

Ok it's tomorrow

DH & to a lesser extent DC think I'm having a scheduled mammogram

Starting to stress a bit really

OP posts:
Panickyarse · 15/04/2018 21:46

Best of luck for tomorrow. I will keep checking in to see how you've got on. Keep calm as I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine Flowers

I hope all goes well tomorrow. Completely understand you not telling your dh, I wouldn't either as he just wouldn't cope. Do you have a friend or anyone you can take instead though?

IAmMatty · 15/04/2018 22:07

Good luck. I had a lump checked in December and all was fine, sure you will be too xx

OhGoodnessMe · 16/04/2018 17:32

All clear - thanks everyone
