Hi all. Sorry for the weird subject but gave birth to dd on Tuesday and all is going really well apart from my boobs. I don't remember it being this bad with ds. I am not bf but my milk has started to come in and I am in AGONY. What can I do? I've taken Paracetomol and they've done nothing. Some people seem to think cold compress, others say hot. I need help now before I go mad. PLeeeeeease, anyone?

oh darling - it is so no nice - I remember it well.

I have heard cabbage leaves ease it a little, esp. from the fridge.

As I remember it goes really quickly, once your body recognises it - mine went from rock to flop in about half an hour.

Fingers crossed.

Looks like I'm sending dh off to Asda tonight for cabbage leaves. Thanks girls!

Get Savoy cabbage. After they've been in your bra for a couple of hours they sort of come out 'cooked'. I think it's because they sort of take the heat away. I found the leaves an absolute life-saver, get 2 cabbages then you won't run out.

Dh still not home so no cabbages yet for me! I'm in agony. Anyone got any idea how long this will last? I've had it since lunchtime today and even sitting still is excruciating. Ds is not very well and all he wants is cuddles and I feel terrible telling him not to cuddle me how he wants.

For cracking lansinoh? Hot baths and cold compresses and cabbage (and get the baby on the boobs to drain them as much as poss!)

emwad · 10/05/2007 21:07

Ouch, I really sympathise with you. I only managed to BF for 3 days so I was in agony like you. A really really supportive non-wired bra and cabbage leaves is the best. Mine lasted for about 1 week before going down, although the pain does subside abit each day x

Long warm shower, express some of the milk - worked for me anyway.

Washersaurus · 10/05/2007 21:10

I used to work with a lady who admitted to using 2 tea strainers in her bra (whilst at home) to keep the fabric off her sore nips when she was bf. She also recommended cabbage.

MrsCarrot · 10/05/2007 21:11

Oooh, poor you. Try to remember that it really does improve as your body settles to what your baby needs. Feed him as much as you can and cabbage cabbage cabbage, who knows why it works, but it does! Expressing in the bath can help too. Hope you feel better

Still didn't get cabbage until this morning. The leaves are now installed and the relief is amazing. If anyone had told me I would actually do it I never would have believed them but, thanks girls, it works! I'm not bf so I decided to resist the temptation to express a little off - even though I don't think I could have touched them tbh. A friend says if I express milk off it will take my body longer to realise I don't need the milk and therefore longer to go back to normal. I have to say they feel incredibly itchy now - maybe I'm allergic to cabbage!!! lol
