Mini pill, heavy periods and perimenopause :(

Hi all, have been reading threads on here for a while now but this is my first post. I know there is quite a bit on here on the subject but any input on this will be much appreciated.
I am 45 and my symptoms started last year with spotting after exercise. I used to be very active, running 4 times a week and going to the gym but this was starting to hold me back as I found it really upsetting and worrying. I had ultrasounds, blood tests and 2 biopsies and apart from a small fibroid, they said there wasn't anything sinister and I should carry on as normal. However, my periods which have always been on the heavy side, have got even heavier. Everyone says it's perimenopause but I'm really struggling. I don't have any pain but they are very heavy and last for about 7 days now. I am a teacher and am absolutely mortified that one day I won't be able to make it through a lesson!

Anyway, the specialist suggested to try the mini pill (Cerazette). I have been taking this for 28 days now, starting on the first day of my period. First period, as expected, was as usual but lasted a few more days. Then for another week or so afterwards I would bleed through the night only (I sometimes think it's because I take the pill at 7am and by say 3am or so its concentration has dropped but not sure that's how this works at all). Then I had nothing in between and then my second period came which doesn't seem to be much lighter, perhaps a tiny bit, as I got a light afternoon on day 2 which is very unusual. However, it's back to normal today :( .

I know these things take time and I am going to stick with it but I guess what I'm looking for is some reassurance that this has worked for others in a similar situation.
Thanks for reading my long post and looking forward to your replies x
