For the last 2 mornings I have been woken up by my DD 6 yrs old, crying and screaming that she cannot move her right leg and is in pain (5.45am on wed and 3.50am this morning). She says the pain is in the top part. Once she is up and trying to walk on it nearer to school time it feels better and after school you wouldn't know that there had been a problem, I noticed this morning that the foot was not very pink in colour and was cold so I left a message at the doctors for advice.
I have been asked to make her an appointment, well they can give me 6pm on monday night.
Has anyone any advice on what to do to?

Thankyou if you have managed to read all of this.

Are you sure it's not just cramp? Can be extremely painful and goes away with moving. Also you get it more if you are cold, which you also imply. I hope that's all it is, hope you get it sorted.

My dd gets 'growing pains'; I had no idea this even really existed until this happened, and it's just horrible; she wakes up in the night absolutely beside herself with pain

I've been to the gp a couple of times but it seems some children get this, and I haven't found a lot of advice out there. obv this might not be what's going on for your dd, and if it continues prob best to go to your gp; I think growing pains are more often in the calf area.

Do hope this passes, poor her.

Thankyou for your replies.
DD was crying when I collected her from school and the teacher came up and spoke to me about her leg. I said that they should have phoned me and I would have picked her up, but teacher said that DD just carried on.
So I phoned the doctors and got in at 5.20pm, she has to have an x-ray on her hip, but he said it might just be growing pains. Have to give her iburprofen and calpol for the next few days and see how she is then.

Hello mumlove, sorry to hear about your DD. I have a DD who is 7 and has a similar thing with her left knee although hers comes on intermittantly (sp). I have wondered if it is growing pains but will watch this thread with interest. Good luck and i hope she feels better soon.

Well no screaming this morning so thats a good sign, but she is still limping.
Have got an appointment for an x-ray on tueday, so will see how she goes over the weekend.
