I started taking cerazette a month and a half ago as I was sick to death of agonising heavy periods which knocked me out for two days a month.

Past few days have had mild period like cramps and the morning woken up with full on period bleeding, got bad cramps too. Is this normal?? Will it balance out over time??

I can't switch to combined pill due to DVT in family so don't really know what my other options are.

Yes completely normal. For the first 3 months I had regular yet very heavy periods then none at all. In my job as a practice nurse prescribing oral contraceptives I found that most women either stopped having periods altogether or continued with irregular bleeding and spotting. Cerazette can be a nightmare. Coming off it to conceive can be awful too with bleeding on and off for months just to bear in mind if that's in your future plans. You might be better with a mirena coil.
