Should I do anything about this?

I woke up with a sore knee, and all day it has been getting more bruised and more swollen. I don’t remember hurting it and the other knee is fine.

I have been resting it all day - but use a wheelchair anyway. I have complicated health problems including being immunosuppressed but pretty sure there is no infection.

It would happen on bank holiday! Presumably fine just to leave it?

Call 111. That amount of bruising for no apparent reason is not the norm.

supersop60 · 30/03/2018 17:57

Agree.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 30/03/2018 17:59

Neededical attention immediately

AntiquePsychopath · 30/03/2018 17:59

I'd get that checked out, to rule out DVT or cellulitis

RandomMess · 30/03/2018 18:02

Yeah that needs checking out!

Grumpyoldwoman007 · 30/03/2018 18:04

Another one saying get it checked out. That doesn't look like it should wait until Tuesday!

mirren3 · 30/03/2018 18:04

Definitely get it checked out. If that has just happened through the day something isn't right.

crunchtime · 30/03/2018 18:05

definiutely NOT ok to leave it-get thee to a and e

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 30/03/2018 18:05

I'd guess cellulitis - 111 now; and draw around it with the time.

Walkingthroughawall · 30/03/2018 18:19

You know the answer! Draw around it so you can see if it's expanding. See a doctor today. Make sure they know you're immunosuppressed (you may not develop the usual signs/symptoms if it is an infection ....you need a functioning immune system to develop the signs/symptoms). May just be bruising but infection needs proper thinking about.

oxcat1 · 30/03/2018 18:32

Oh dear.

Spoke to 111 who have said that they'll send an ambulance round! I did say that I really didn't think it was that serious and I didn't want to waste the resources, but she was pretty sure that it was a good idea.

I have agreed to a non-emergency ambulance, although I am feel pretty guilty about it. I have several life-threatening conditions so I am used to ambulances being called out, but that is for life-threatening situations where i am in ITU within a few hours. Can't get my head around an ambulance for this, although I have to say, though, that the idea of trying to get dressed and up the stairs to get myself to a walk-in centre (tough anyway as use a wheelchair) was pretty off-putting.

Thanks for the kick up the arse, and sorry for the waste of resources. I did try....

Wow Oxcat - I hope you're ok. Glad you are being seen though as that knee does look nasty.

RandomMess · 30/03/2018 18:52

But they are right it needs looking at today Thanks

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 30/03/2018 18:54

You're doing the right thing.

I had cellulitis; I couldn't see why I needed to go to hospital. They kept me in for three weeks - after the first day and a half; I suddenly felt like death. Before that, I could not understand why everyone was so worried.

I hope you're out soon and it's all under control.

RatRolyPoly · 30/03/2018 18:57

Oh wow, yeah, glad you're getting seen to!

retirednow · 30/03/2018 19:00

Hope you're ok, keep us posted.

MrsMozart · 30/03/2018 19:12

Not a waste of resources. They're there to deal with things like this.

Hope all goes well.

mumof06darlings · 30/03/2018 23:30

Glad your getting seen. 👍 Hope all is good now?

wineoclockthanks · 31/03/2018 10:02

How are you doing today Oxcat?

oxcat1 · 31/03/2018 12:58

Thank you!

I ended up getting kept in ans home at 0400!
Bloods showed only slight infection signs so not too concerned about that, and clotting was normal. They drew off some of the fluid with a needle to reduce the swelling. x-ray didn't reveal any fractures, but they think perhaps I partially dislocated it or twisted it without realising and have torn ligaments. So in a big cricket splint with referral to Fracture Clinic.

What a fuss for a bruised knee! Thanks again for your help.

Sounds a tad more than a 'bruised knee' lass, but glad it's not more serious.

supersop60 · 31/03/2018 21:56

Glad you're ok. You did the right thing.
