I took my DD (9) for a routine eye test and the optician noticed the disc in one eye was pale compared to the other. So she has been referred to the eye hospital and has an appointment next week. The optitian said not to worry but I am.
Has anyone got any experience of this?

No one who hasn't examined your daughter's eyes can really add anything useful to what the optometrist said. It must be horrible waiting for the appointment. I hope it will turn out to be something that's easily managed.

I've always had problems with my right eye which were picked up when I was 4. Opthamology at the hospital have always been fantastic and what they can do in terms of eye care and if needed eye surgery is fantastic.

Has the optician given any possible causes for a pale optic disc?

I've always found that calling the booking line at the hospital once you know the referral has been sent gets you an earlier appt than waiting for one to be sorted for you.

She said is could be nothing but it could mean swelling or fluid on the brain. The appointment is Thursday so it’s not that long. I’m just worried. I just need to wait for Thursday. Thanks for replying.
