So i had an intetnal scan 2 weeks ago this coming Thursday was told 10 days for results 4 hours later my doctor rang asking to see me. I went in the next day and he said he had been asked to do an urgent referral to gynacology as i had a cyst behind my ovary and did some blood tests. My bloods came back fine and my appointment is this Thursday morning. I am obviously worried but this weekend i received a e booking letter for a triage i didn't need to attend it was like a telephone referral at the hospital from what I can gather but this stated in it that it was a referral for "all tumor sites".... would they call a cyst a Tumor???

I know Tumor dosnt mean cancer but does it mean that what they found is more solid rather than liquid filled would you say ??

Thanks for any advice xx

I had a similar thing. Had a scan and radiographer found a mass on one ovary. Doctor phoned, gave me a 2 week urgent referral. By now I was shitting myself with fear. Had blood test for ca125 (ovarian cancer marker). Twas normal. In the end it was just a simple cyst.

Ring the surgery and get your GP to call you back tomorrow.

I spoke to my gp who said they will want to do more scans to take a better look but my phone call from the hospital and appointment letter state its a consultation leading me to think its is either a watch and see or biopsy ...... My worry is it seems to have gone from being called a cyst to a Tumor..... to me they are different things but are they not???

I knoww im just massively over thinking things but I can't help it my mind is on overdrive

Sorry for waffling on

Thanks xx

Sorry to hear you are worroied. How old are you and what were your symptoms?

Caulk · 26/03/2018 22:09

Having had many scans and surgery for ovarian cysts, I’ve experienced t being called cysts or tumours. It depends on the type of cyst as to what it is called.

SouthWestmom · 26/03/2018 22:18

Can you ask your GP specifically about this letter?

Vga1984 · 26/03/2018 22:21

Im only 33 so i know I'm proberbly worrying for nothing for me the unknown scares me

I have polycystic ovaries so have been expectibg a cyst at some point. I went to my doctor as I have gone from having a period a year to bleeding for a day or 2 every week to 10 days and a lot of pain ranging from dull achy pains to really bad period pains. Once I told him this we had a chat and other things he was concerned about were bowl movement i suddenly become constipated for days then it passes i dont become massively bloated but have a lot of gas more tired and my appetite goes for a few days here and there all apart from the bleeding can be explained away so never thought anything of them

I know its going to be nothing and worse case its a biopsy to be safe but it's seeing the word tumor

I'm going to ring the GP again tomorrow

I dont even know how big it is ... is that something he can tell me or will that be at gynacology???

This happened to my sister last year. She had scan and the next week an appointment came through to see a gynecology oncologist, that scared the shit out of her as nothing had been explained to her. They kept calling the cyst a tumor but they said in the medical profession all cysts over a certain size are automatically called a tumor. She had to have the 'tumor' and ovary removed. In the end it turned out to be endometriosis (which she didn't know she had)the tissues had formed in the ovary causing this large cyst. No other treatment needed and she is fine now.

So it's possibly been labelled a Tumor based on size alone.... that's less scary i think 😐😐
