Anyone had a Mirena coil put in when bleeding?

I had a blood transfusion 10 days ago. Due to heavy periods over a lot of years and a period that has lasted from 9th December!

I saw a gynaecologist whilst in hospital who scanned and examined me. She found a fibroid in my womb. She offered to put a mirena in (and I was bleeding at the time but not heavily). I didn't want to go through the procedure at the time she offered.

She gave me Provera to stop the bleeding. Which it did until 2 days ago. I have been bleeding quite heavily again for past 2 days. My gp yesterday told me to take transamic acid for the next few days to stop the bleeding and also continue with provera.

The GP is going to call me back on Tuesday to see if this stops the bleeding. If it doesn't he said I will have to have an emergency gynaecology appointment. He said they won't put a mirena in when I am bleeding.

The bleeding hasn't slowed down much. It is still quite heavy. I am worried that the gynaecologist suggests something more invasive than a mirena to stop the bleeding now.

Does anyone have experience of a gynaecologist inserting a coil when you were bleeding?

Hi tricky how old are you ? I'm almost 48 and having investigations for heavy bleeding too. Norethisterone from GP stopped bleed for me after number of weeks. It's not long term option but it might stop the bleeding enough for you to have the mirena (?)

Yes, I had a bit of a bad time having my Mirena fitted and the GP told me to come back when I was bleeding to make it easier.
It won’t be that they can’t do it when you’re bleeding. I imagine they want to figure out what’s going on.

I had mine put in when bleeding, but this was done by gynae under a general so probably made a difference.
