Irregular Periods

Hi All, sorry I'm new to this site and I'm just after some advice for my wife. Apologies if my terminology isn't correct, I don't mean to offend anyone

About 2 years ago the doctors changed my wife's pill from Microgynon to something else (I believe the NHS did this to save money with a cheaper version?). Prior to this she had never had a problem with her periods, even having two children her periods went back to her normal cycle

The pill change basically threw my wife's periods into a frenzy, having a period lasting 3 weeks then 1 week off and then another 3 weeks on. We've been to doctors over and over with no joy to the point she came off the pill with the hope it would regulate itself and I had a vasectomy, but with no joy.

As you can imagine, two years of this my wife is really down now bless her and we're still having no joy with the GP so we are looking for ways she might be able to reboot her circle. We've heard about Vitex? but reading this seems to be for cycles too far apart not too close together??

Any advice would be really appreciated
Thanks
Si

Don't go to the GP for contraception would be my advice, go to the family planning clinic where the staff have significant expertise in these issues. She should make an appointment to see them if she wants to use contraception to regulate her periods.

Was she moved from microgynon to the progestogen only pill? Huge differences in the hormonal effects.

Is there a reason she doesn't want to post these questions here herself?

Is it just the irregular periods that are bothering her? Or is she still menstruating 3 weeks in 4? If you're not trying to conceive, what other effect is it having now? Is she tracking dates? What other symptoms does she have?

Thanks for your reply, we've not been to family planning clinic as yet so that will be our next point of call.

My wife hasn't been on a pill for over 12 months now, they moved her from microgynon onto Rividon first and then Loestrin. The issue is she's on 3 weeks out of every 4 for the last 24 months, she now feels like it's affecting her life, i.e not been able to swim with the kids, affecting our love life etc

It's not that she doesn't want to post her questions, I just thought I would try and get more information for her to help her any way I can

Thanks
Si

They're both combined pills, so it may be the levels of hormones in them have caused chaos. I'm not a doctor, but have had to do huge amounts of research for my own issues with periods etc.

Maybe she could look at the coil - that was life changing for me, stopped bleeding near completely for the whole 5 years.

Brilliant thank you, I'll look into that as well, I think ideally she want's to stay off contraception now we don't need it, but would do anything to improve the situation. so we have a third option of the coil

Our first port of call will be the family planning clinic to seek advice

I shall relay back to my
Si
