Background that might be relevent:

Around 2 years ago, I had a car accident where I was hit from the side and banged my right shoulder quite hard off the drivers side door. I've had intermittant shoulder pain since. mostly in the front of my shoulder along with grinding and popping.
Around a week ago, i started to experience pain my shoulder blade. down my arm to my elbow. is very sharp. I can't sleep because i can't find a comfortable way to lie.
I've been trying for days to get a GP appointment with no luck. I've tried pain killers, heat, cold.
Any ideas on what else i can do? i feel like i'm losing my mind!

Was it xrayed or scanned at the time, there are a few things that cause this awful pain, you do need to see a doctor. You may have damaged the bone, the muscles or the cartilage. A few of us here have had this, i used to sleep on my back with my bad arm down my side propped up on a pillow with a hot water bottle at the top of my arm. Don't overuse it, is it the same arm you write with, try to rest it, don't life anything heavy with it. Flowers

no x ray or anything at the time no. I will definitely get to see the doctor when an appoinment frees up, but will try the hot water bottle in the meantime!. luckily i'm left handed so its my non-dominant hand in that respect (though i've discovered i can't open bottle with my left hand, not sure what thats about!). thanks for the reply!

Have you got any pins and needles, i got it in my little finger and couldn't do a bra up, wash my hair etc so bought front fastening bra, wore shirts and cardigans. I ended up having an op but hopefully yours won't come to that.

yes some pins and needles and weakness in my fingers. its been niggly for a while, but nothing on this level.

Poor you, do get it checked, you could call 111 for an out of hours doctor.

Going to try my GP again today and if no joy will go to OOH tonight. I don't really like doing that as I feel like those are emergency appointments, but i can't go on like this indefinitely. thank you so much!

Hope you get it sorted out today, it's excruciating so don't leave it. Let me know how it goes. Flowers. Do tell them all your symptoms.

How did you get on at the doctors, hope you're getting some sleepFlowers

I had a sore knee and my GP said it was down to my age... I went to a chiropractor for treatment and it's fine now. Might be worth you investigating that?

hi, sorry its taken me a bit of time to come back to this thread. I saw my GP who was really worried about altered sensation in the back of my arm that i'd not realised was even there. he sent me straight to the hospital who did x rays and scans and long story short i had emergency surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome wednesday night. all a bit dramatic but i'm feeling much better today and should be home tomorrow. thank you for your help and that will teach me not to ignore stuff in future!
