First period after hysterscope and polypectomy

I had a hysterscope and polypectomy nearly three weeks ago under GA, I've felt quite uncomfortable since the procedure, consultant said that was to be expected and normal at my follow-up last week, she said that my first period would be heavy ish.

My period arrived yesterday and to say its heavy is an understatement (I had the procedure due to heavy periods, flooding and spotting), my period is so heavy that I'm going through a super towel every hour, with 3-4 incidents of flooding yesterday and the same today so far. Is this normal or should I be concerned? I've been taking my mefanamic acid as normal but it's not slowing yet.

I also have awful gas cramps in my stomach - I'm assuming this is clearing after the op???

Bless you. I had polyps removed after ridiculously heavy and painful periods. Re gynae said my uterus was trying to contract to expel the foreign objects, so it was basically like being in labour. I would bleed through an ultra lilets and heavy flow towel and stain my jeans in a matter of minutes. I literally couldn't do anything or go anywhere during my period. However, since the op,they have been much, much lighter and less painful, so I would definitely see someone about this. Do you have a follow up support number from your surgery team?

You need to make sure you don't have an infection- are you in pain or have a temp?

I had a hysteroscopy but no polyp removal (no GA ). I was advised to watch out for pain etc up to 3 weeks.

I can't see how the procedure would make your period heavier- it's a tiny tiny camera they use (I was watching all the time as they did mine) and a friend who had a polyp removed didn't have any bleeding you describe.

I think you ought to call the dr's sec and ask for advice.

Thank you. Things seem to have slowed down. Although the gassy cramps are very uncomfortable. And no temp either.

I have the same symptoms. I had a polyp removal on the 10th of November & my period started a month after 9th of December.
Day 1 was only drops
Day 2 was medium (at the end of the day)
Day 3, 4, 5 & 6 (today) VERY HEAVY flow & many clots, is this normal?

I am 41. I had a hysteroscopy almost 4 weeks ago with some very mild spotting just after and then it was fine, and my stitches look to have healed well externally. Then my period started almost 2 weeks ago (so 2 weeks after the op, and more or less on time give or take a day or so). It was very heavy to start with, and I usually only need pain relief on days 2 and 3 on a heavy period. With this, I have had to take ibuprofen multiple times on almost every day of what is now about 12 days. The blood flow is slightly less but it is still bright red, and it's the cramps I am mainly dealing with. They are mostly a bit more manageable than usual, but I am still having to take ibuprofen when they flare up too much. I am trying to eke it out through the day so that I take between 2 to 6 (three lots of two) in any 24 hour period. I have never consistently taken ibuprofen beyond about 3 days before but I think this is an unusual circumstance - still am only taking them when things are getting too uncomfortable. I have had nausea the last few days as well, but I think this is from the cramps because when I take ibuprofen, it gets rid of the nausea as well so it's clearly pain-related rather than just me being sick. During my op I had a hysteroscopy and a laparoscopy where they removed a tiny endo spot from one ovary, two 0.8cm polyps (so very small) from my uterus and also an adhesion where my womb was literally taped to my back so it effectively made me have to deal with the same issues you get when you are 3-4 weeks pregnant according to my doctor, they inserted a Mirena coil for the first time and they also widened my urethra as I have been struggling to empty my bladder fully and it's all a bit tight. They confirmed endo but removed it but both I and my gynaecologist think I have adenomyosis because my uterus is bulky and they can't do anything about that (unless I do the fake menopause thing potentially). I am still having bladder struggles with not being able to fully go to the loo when I want to (the opposite of incontinence basically), and my bladder still feels sore, I get sometimes little stabbing pains in various areas (down to my crotch and sometimes in the sides) but that's only once or twice a day and it goes, and I am obviously getting the very long period, cramps and bleeding. I checked for a urine infection and it's fine, and I just think it is all taking a long time to settle down, my gynaecologist doesn't seem to think there's an issue but to let him know how the period situation continues. I'll post again in maybe a month or two - I just wanted to put this out there because I couldn't see much online about just how long the first period after any of this work lasts, but mine is just going on and on despite me genuinely feeling like it's just my insides healing and dealing with a bunch of stuff being done to them. Otherwise, despite actually quite a bit of discomfort, I am doing things more or less as normal, except I've taken a break from jogging and I am avoiding lifting anything heavy instead of doing weights like I usually do. Instead, I have been walking up and down hills at a gentle pace for about 2 hours a day every day for the last week and half, and from what I can tell, it seems to be fine, because I get the same pain levels on the few days where I have just sat at my desk the whole day, but when I go for a walk, it helps because the endorphins really cheer me up (have been quite low about the whole endo thing). I went back to work the day after my op, and I would recommend taking the week off instead actually, and maybe the second week too. Will definitely update this though to let others know what happens, because I think I have probably mild to moderate endometriosis and adenomyosis and am usually very fit despite being very overweight just now, yet it is still taking a while for everything to settle.

I had a hysteroscopy March 9th 2021 almost 3 months ago., which they found and unexpected large polyp.(the procedure was done because I had heavy painful periods with large blood clots.) I finally got my first period 2months later May 6th and I am still bleeding, heavily with large blood clots constantly, saturating super+ tampons and overnight pads every hour or so. The clots are just bypassing the tampon. I have only had cramps today but not painful. I know this is not normal, my DR. is not in until Monday when I will contact her.
I can't find anything on the internet that is helpful! Does anybody know anything about this or had a similar experience.
I need something to understand what the heck is going on. Seventeen days of heavy constant bleeding sucks!

Oh bloody hell i just started a thread about heavy periods and then read this -- am having a hysterocopy under GA soon- hadn't realised it could lead to a heavier period.

You have my sympathy OP. Hopefully it will just happen the once.

Hello Mom805,

i am having same prolonged period after poly removal, its been 30days, last 3 days its heavy flow. Can i know how is your heavy bleeding controlled or ended ?? Please help

JustlookingNotbuying · 21/07/2022 13:26

I’ve had recurring polyps removed 4 times. The procedure never helped me, my periods just got heavier and heavier.
In April I had a uterine ablation but sadly that has failed too as I’ve had 3 periods since, each has gotten heavier and heavier and now lasts 2 weeks.
I have my post-procedure consultation tomorrow, have no idea where I go from here. I can not have a hysterectomy.
