My daughter has just asked me to feel her left breast as she has a little lump there. She is 8 years old. She has told me she noticed it 3 weeks or so ago when we on holiday but she was embarressed to tell me, aaah bless. Now am a little worried but this may be normal do you think? Dont want to take her to docs and they say "its her bone you silly ejit" (no I know they wont really, they are lovely but dont want to waste their time). Any ideas very gratefully received x

Could it be a breast-bud? Breasts start growing with a lump under the nipple. Perhaps a little early for that though? I'm not cure what the average age is for starting puberty...I think I got 'breast buds' at about 11, but I was a fairly late developer.

I'm sure someone wise will be along soon

southeastastra · 07/05/2007 20:58

it's probably a breast bud which is the start of puberty. my son had the same thing though i'm not a doctor

thelittleElf · 07/05/2007 20:58

Is there not a dr in the house

thelittleElf · 07/05/2007 21:00

Oops, posted too soon . Meant to say, i was thinking along the same lines as the others, but hopefully someone else will shed some more lght on it for you. Failing that, a quick call to your GP tomorrow might be a good idea.

This has just remended me of a question my Mum asked me yesterday and i said i would find out for her(she lives in turkey).
My Brother is 13 and has a small lump behind his nipple. He says it hurts a bit and sort of stings.
Could this be the same thing do you think?

southeastastra · 07/05/2007 21:01

my son is 13 too tortoise, but it's getting smaller again

tortoise · 07/05/2007 21:04

Thanks SEA.Did his hurt a bit too?

southeastastra · 07/05/2007 21:09

he said it did a bit it was like a hard lump but i've just looked again and it's definitely gone down.

Tamum · 07/05/2007 21:11

There have been various threads like this in the past, and everyone always says breast buds and not to worry IIRC

crazylazydaisy · 07/05/2007 21:24

Thanks for your responses. My 2 other dds never complained about this at her age but then we all different i suppose. It's just that i thought the buds would grow the same either side and this is just on one side, so will look up the other threads Tamum said about.

I distinctly remember mine started on one side (the right).

Tamum · 07/05/2007 21:29

I think that's what usually worries people, the fact that it's on one side only. This looks like a good site

This is what annoys me when people moan about mumsnet. All the answers have made me feel so much better, otherwise i would of sat here with that sick feeling in my stomach all evening worrying till I could speak to doc tomorrow. Thanks again all. I looked at old "breast buds" threads and some very similar stories. Thanks for the link Tamum x

That's great, crazylazydaisy

tortoise · 07/05/2007 21:55

I have just sent my Mum a text and she is pleased to know its nothing to worry about.

southeastastra · 07/05/2007 21:57

i've searched on here for loads of problems and there's always a thread on it. it's just great to have a massive database of mums experiences.

crazylazydaisy · 07/05/2007 22:05

Wish i had known about it when ds started having seizures last year, but hadnt heard of it until a certain person was unhappy about the site and it was in the papers! So I have a lot to thank her for
