Referral for tonsillectomy

Hi everyone.

After repeated bouts of tonsillitis and many failed attempts to be referred to ENT, I finally have a referral! Wahooo.
I’ve got two issues. Recurrent tonsillitis and I suffer from tonsil stones. It’s seriously affecting my life now and I think the GP could finally see how miserable this is all making me so agreed to refer me without having to put up much of a fight.
So I have my ENT referral in a few weeks. Checked my medical record and I already have a prior approval ticket on there which is the agreement of funding for a tonsillectomy. I suppose now I just need the consultant to agree that I need one?
Has anyone got any experience of this? Or what I can expect from my ent referral appointment?
I’m a bit concerned as in the past doctors have always tried to put off referring me by saying I have small tonsils anyway, maybe meaning they are trickier to remove?
Will be so pleased if the consultant agrees to take them out.
Xxxx

I am lucky as I had no problems so it must depend on your doctor. Thinking about it, it was four years ago this month I had them removed. Told my gp that I had tonsillitis at least twice a year, needing a day or two off work each time as I got a fever and sick with it and generally felt unwell. Also had tonsil stones and huge tonsils. Gp said ut was affecting my work and home life so she would refer me. Had a hospital appt not long after and then a date for the tonsilectomy about three months after going to my gp. I'm not going to lie: recovery was a miserable week or so but don't regret it at all! I don't snore anymore either!

Hope it all goes well op and you can have them removed.

Thank you. I’m happy to deal with whatever the recovery will be like it will just be a HUGE relief to have them out.
