Tonsillitis advice needed

Pretty sure I've got tonsillitis... since Friday I've felt generally quite rotten with a raging temp and have a sore throat with big white spots. My mum says if you have spots on your tonsils you need antibiotics to clear it but I haven't taken antibiotics in years and would really rather avoid them. Is it best to go to the gp or wait a few more days?

Also, I've had the most dreadful night sweats, soaking through my pyjamas. I've never had this before and it's worried me a bit. Any idea if this is normal?

Yes you need antibiotics asap.

Go see your gp. I waited a few days to give it a chance to clear up on its own and I ended up in hospital with quinsy (a very painful tonsil abscess). Let the doctor decide whether or not you need antibiotics.

I'll go to the walk in centre later on then, no point requesting a gp appointment unless I can wait 3 weeks! Actually don't feel too bad today although my throat is still sore and spotty.

I had it 3 weeks ago, second time in 12 months, miserable as sin. This time I went and got antibiotics straight from the GP but still felt I had swallowed a cactus 3 days on. As I worry the antibiotics will destroy my gut flora again, I took some leftover oral (lozenge for the stomach) probiotics that's in the fridge...the thing worked a treat, my sore throat gone in an hour and I was able to eat and sleep.

I had this a few weeks' ago. It was the worst bout of tonsillitis I've had for 25 years, it was hideous.

I was that bad that I dragged myself to the walk in centre and sat in there crying and shaking for two hours 20 minutes. I must have looked that bad because people were moving to not sit near me 😳. When I eventually got seen I had a temperature of nearly 40 degrees and I could hardly swallow my own saliva. I was given ten days of penicillin that made me feel loads better after about a day and a half.

You def need the drugs! Get well soon Thanks

Veggie - just read your post about your gut flora! Since I've taken my antibiotics (10 days worth) I've had acid reflux and my stomach doesn't feel the same. Do you think this is connected?

Tanfastic - The time before last when I had my 10 days' worth of antibiotics (when I had tonsillitis), I had runny tummy for 10 weeks. Doctors had no idea why as all tests came out negative... I tried everything from raw garlic to volcanic ashes to look for a cure, in the end I stumble across probiotics. I was so desperate I ended up taking a big cocktails of them and was cure within a week... As for your condition, it may well be connected, I read recently in Michael Moseley's 'clever gut diet' where he mentioned how some bacteria can cause acid reflex and apparently good gut bacteria can control that. I'm no expert but I did take a stomach probiotic called Biogaia Gastus (the one that stopped the pain when I had tonsillitis) which is meant to be good for oral and stomach health, you may want to try it or some other similar ones. I certainly think it won't hurt.

Thanks I will look at that. Just seems a bit of a coincidence. I’m not allergic to antibiotics or anything but this time I did find they made my stomach feel raw (the only way I can describe it really). I was also
Taking some for a uti at the same time. Just seems a bit of a coincidence. I’ve only noticed it after a big meal, just cud creeping up
And burping.

Hopefully it will sort itself out.

Acid creeping up!
I really need to wear my glasses 😂
