Anyone had a hysterectomy?

I am 40. Was sterilised at 34. Since then my periods have become excruciating and extremely heavy which causes severe flooding and big clots sometimes. I am thinking about seeing my GP to ask for a partial hysterectomy. Anyone got any experience?

Also not long suffered viral meningitis so not sure what GP will say tbh.

I had a hysterectomy 20 years ago for similar reasons. It was such a relief.

Whatever is causing the heavy blood loss and pain needs to be investigated so do go and see your GP. I assume by "partial Hysterectomy" you mean having your womb removed and leaving your ovaries? I also did that and so far so good.

I had a hysterectomy keeping my ovaries and almost immediately started up with ovarian cysts which I’d not had. The hysterectomy was for the same reason as yours.i though keeping my ovaries was a great idea but I ended up having two more surgeries trying to get my ovaries out. First one was complicated with scar tissue and I had to get a specialist to remove what was left of my right ovary. Maybe ask the doc if cysts are more common when you lose your uterus? I never did.

Thanks ladies. I will. Glad I asked. You never know these things otherwise!
