Sciatica, or something else

Hi all,

About 4 weeks ago I started getting a full ache in my lower back on the right side, this then went to my right hip and right buttock and it sometimes goes down my thigh. I am also getting pressure on my pelvis on the right side. I’m booked in for the Doctors on Friday but I’ve spoken to a nurse and she seems to think it could be sciatica.

Forgot to mention that it comes and goes, when I stand the pain and pressure goes

sounds like it, i had it a couple of months ago, pain down one leg and top of my foot, worse in the morning on getting up gradually got better throughout day. doc gave me cocodomol but that made me feel sick, sciatica eventually disappeared after 6-8 weeks.

I recently had very similar symptoms and my gp and physio both diagnosed pain coming from my right sacroiliac joint which referred to my hip and buttock and also groin occasionally. I thought it was sciatica - very similar pain to pelvic dysfunction I had when pregnant

I have arthritis in my left sacroiliac joint, diagnosed by x-ray, and it sounds similar. Funnily enough I always had issues in that area during each of my 4 pregnancies, which would start before I had even taken a test and stop a few days after birth. I'm sure there must be a connection.

I think hormone changes can soften the pelvis which effects the joints. I had a lot of stress and anxiety which caused my periods to go a little haywire for a bit and that resulted in the pain. Sucks being a woman at times!!
