Is this ringworm?

DS is 10 this round mark is on his leg just below the knee. He says it hurts when you touch it and he thought it was a bruise but it seems very circular for a bruise. He can't remember hitting his leg on anything circular recently. Could it be ringworm? I've tried googling pictures but some look like it and other ringworm pictures look different with anmore obvious middle to the ring if that makes sense.

I had this a few summers ago on my legs, I was doing a lot of horse riding at the time. It was lots of thin red rings around my thighs, the skin looked slightly scaly and dry too. If that helps! Some anti-fungal cream from the GP cleared it up in a few days.

It looks like it to me but the ring isn’t that obvious. It may get more pronounced in days to come. DD had this and it took ages to shift. It was on her shin. She almost certainly got it from sitting on grass in a park. Go and see your GP for advice. It’s a virus so not much helps!

It is very round! Mine didn’t hurt though as such, more like a tickly itch. Do you have any anti-fungal cream you could pop on and see if it improves at all?

Nope we don't have any anti fungal cream in the house. I'll go to the pharmacist tomorrow. Is it contagious?

DD2 and I had ringworm many years ago. Not painful at all but v itchy.

I think it was a red ring but white skin inside the ring.
Cream didn’t work but prescribed tablets cured it

WhatAPowerfulPerm · 08/03/2018 20:11

I think so yeah, if it is ringworm it’s a fungus like athlete’s foot, so no sharing towels etc. Pharmacist sounds a good plan. Hope it gets better for him soon!

Looks more like he has knelt on something to me - especially if it hurts. Ringworm doesn't hurt, it itches.

butterfly56 · 08/03/2018 21:21

It could be an insect bite. especially if it hurts. draw an outline around it to see if it spreads.
I had something similar many years ago and did not feel the bite but leg was sore to touch for a while.

AppleAndBlackberry · 08/03/2018 21:24

I don't know, it looks like there's some bruising too which you don't get with ringworm.

Ilikesweetpeas · 08/03/2018 21:24

Not convinced, my DC had something which started like this and the doctor said was ringworm. Within 2 weeks it had really spread and second doctor diagnosed pitarios rosea which is a viral infection which cleared after about 6 weeks

BeyondThePage · 08/03/2018 21:31

oooooo I had Pityriasis rosea once - a "herald patch" a bit like that mark followed by a rash all over (within about a week) that gradually got itchier and itchier and needed antihistamines to stop me tearing my skin off.
