Anterior prolapse requires surgery- what does this mean?

I’d been having stress incontinence issue (mainly while I was running). Is had a bad missed tear during the birth of my first dc and have had similar issues previously.

Saw the gp today and asked to be examined. She said the muscle tone is good elsewhere but the anterior towards the bladder the tone has gone and that’s causing the incontinence. She thought that I should be referred for surgery as pelvic floor excercises won’t fix it. She didn’t expand on the surgery other than to say they’ve stopped using the mesh. So now I’m left wondering what this all means? I’m happy to have surgery if it’s likely to be successful. Can anyone shed any light on what it may mean?

It's very common. Anterior= front wall of vagina, so towards your belly not your bum.

It's a bladder prolapse repair.

They will take away the excess tissue and make it all tighter. This will stop your bladder leaking because the outlet from your bladder may have also dropped, making it leak under pressure.

You will have to rest for up to 6 weeks and not drive for a few weeks, not lift anything heavy and def not run.

I think there are lots of threads here on prolapse repairs and also on the web in general.

Good luck.

Hi zippys. Have a look for the long running ‘any old prolapse’ threads. Lots of helpful ladies on there. You are not alone.

Thanks both of you. I’ll look for those threads. It’s something no one talks about in real life so hard to get an idea about it all.
