Had a sore throat for a month

About a month ago I had a bad cold and lost my voice for two days (not ideal as I'm a teacher). My voice came back after a couple of days, albeit quite croaky. After 2 weeks of my throat being sore, the pharmacist told me to go to my GP. He had a quick look down and prescribed a course of antibiotics for 6 days. I dutifully took them but to no effect. 2 weeks later, my throat is still really sore. It seems to get worse as the day progresses and right now it feels very gritty and painful when I swallow. Anyone else had a sore throat lasting this long? I suppose I'll have to go back to the GP- if I can get an appointment.

Yes. I had a terrible sore throat for 6 weeks. Couldnt swallow, lost weight. Eventually allowed ABx after 4 weeks. No effect whatsoever. Pleaded to have a swab taken after 6 weeks. After which I was given correct antibiotics as the Strep B infection I had was resistant to the first ones.
It was grim.

Maybe contact a voice coach? Alexander technique can be good for voice conservation too.

In the classroom, Raising your hand for silence is excellent I find. And get your kids used to you whispering.

I would demand to see an ent consultant though to rule out anything sinister.

If it is tonsillitis you may need more antibiotics. When I had it very badly it took 3 lots of antibiotics to clear it (week long courses back to back).

Go back to the gp. I may also be something like oral thrush which you can get after antibiotics- there is medication you can take for that too.

The kids are pretty good actually. i tend to shake a tambourine to get their attention! I'll have to Google Strep B.

I had a constantly sore throat that turned out to be silent reflux.

Looks like I'll be on the phone to the GP tomorrow, then. Thanks all.

Am going through this. Went to GP's and saw the nurse on Friday. She prescribed me a course of antibiotics for 7 days but said if there was no improvement to go back as 2 courses were being needed in a lot of cases. Am seeing her tomorrow for the next prescription and actually have felt worse whilst taking this first lot (and got a sore tongue)
Go back to the doctors, I hope you (and I) get well soon Flowers
