Seizure

I have felt dizzy all week, and last night I had a seizure where I was apparently unconscious, convulsing and foaming at the mouth for around 15 minutes.
By the time the ambulance arrived, I was coming round and was being told what had happened - I have to see the doctor today but I’m terrified :(
Could this have just been a one off?

A lot of seizures are a one off. Usually epilepsy (one - but certainly not the only - cause of repeated seizures) requires at least two seizures for diagnosis, for example. One in twenty people have a one off seizure in their lifetime. There are many things which can precipitate a seizure which aren’t going to repeat or are treatable, and equally many other things which may cause a seizure (such as epilepsy etc) are highly treatable. There is a good chance it was a one off, or if there was an underlying cause that could cause a future seizure that it will be managed/controlled. Are you having any tests done (eeg, MRI)?

Hi, I had a seizure 18 months ago completely out of the blue and never had expereinced one before. Really very scary. I never came around and my daughter (16) had to resuscitate me. Ambulance called and I was admitted to hospital as I took another 2 seizures in A&E. This is all called one seizure episode as occured within a short space of time. It's understandable that your incredibly scared, I still am to this day of it happening again. Make a list of questions for your doctor, though he may refer you and will not maybe be able to answer all your questions.
I had lots of tests done but nothing was ever found or diagnosed, just was explained to me a lot of people take one of seizures for a multitude of reasons, some never found.

Are you feeling under any stress at the moment. Hope the doctor is able to put your mind at rest. Ask any questions I am happy to help.

Thank you both for your kind replies and reassurance. Ive just been to the doctors and getting referred for tests within 3 months - I hope this never happens again.

Glad you got seen quickly and have been referred. I ached for days after my seizure and it was explained that we totally stiffen up and go rigid and hense our muscles will be sore afterwards. My neck was particularly sore, so think that is all perfectly normal. Try not and worry. Hope the doctor wasable to put your mind at rest.
