Stitches aftercare

Posting here instead of Chat!

I have two small stitches on my face, put in on Thursday. I took the bandage off after 24 hours.

A few days on, a scab has formed. The doctor who applied them was pretty scant with the aftercare info, just said "have them removed in 7 days". But I've just been googling and apparently scabbing is not good (healing will take longer) and I should be applying vaseline or similar to keep it moist.

Should I moisten the wound with saline and then (delicately) try to remove the scab and apply the petroleum jelly? I'm worried it will scar if I leave the scab.

I thought scabbing was good as it means it is healing underneath?

I recently had stitches and let the scab come off on it's own.
I did apply vaseline to it and that seemed to help!

Thanks Snoopy... I got nervous so took the scab off :-/ very gingerly and with lots of saline. Possibly a bad idea but it didn't bleed. I've put Sodocrem on it as it's all I have, will put a plaster on and hope for the best!

I've been reading that eating lots of vitamin C will help with scarring, so I'd better stock up on peppers...

Hope it's okay! - Must be harder to not touch it when it is on your face understandably!

Thank you Snoopy! Time will tell!
