Period gone AWOL

Sassydoughnut · 03/03/2018 11:19

The first day of my last period was 8th January 2018.
I am between 28/35 cycle. Never missed a period before, only when pregnant 8 yrs ago. Taken 6 pregnancy tests, all negative.
Terrified I have ovarian cancer, thyroid cancer, pituatry tumour.
I have an underactive thyroid, just had my yearly test a couple of days ago, waiting for results.
My mum started the menopause around 40, so wondering if that.
Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts really?

I would assume it was hormones/menopause rather than cancer as by far the most likely.
40 is young to go through menopause so it might well be that - how old are you? You start peri menopause about 10 years before final menopause so your irregular periods are probably perimenopause anyway?

Have you had any stressful life events? I had very regular periods in my 20s (bang on 28 days every time) but when I moved to another country I didn't have one for 7 weeks

Passthecake30 · 03/03/2018 12:32

My periods have been irregular since I reached 40... longer, shorter, heavier and occasionally miss a month completely. I've spoken to the doc and she said it's not necessarily per-menopause, just changes on the way to approaching it.

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 03/03/2018 12:33

Just to say I wouldn’t consider 28-35 regular - id consider that irregular as you aren’t ovulating on time/at all each cycle.

Me too OP. Mine was 26th Jan and i did have unprotected sex with my fiance a few weeks ago. Getting married in nov so this would be very bad timing. Otherwise not sure whats going on

Please speak to you gp to ease your worries though

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 03/03/2018 12:37

Whiskey - take a test!

Couchpotato3 · 03/03/2018 12:44

If you haven't had your thyroid results yet, I'd wait and see what those show before looking for any other causes. You might well need an adjustment to your dose.

Whisky2014 · 03/03/2018 13:31

@Rainbowsandflowers78 I can't as I can't get out of my village due to snow!!

PollyPerky · 03/03/2018 13:54

why would a missed period mean any of the scenarios you posted? Hmm

I think you need to work on your health anxiety.
It's quite extreme to jump to a conclusion of ovarian cancer with a missed period. (OC doesn't show itself by missed periods anyway so not sure how you think it does.)

Periods can go AWOL for all kinds of reasons. Drs say keep a record for 6 months and if they are still all over the place or missing, make an appt to discuss.

Sassydoughnut · 05/03/2018 08:26

My period has started, but only few bloody bits on tissue when I wipe. Not a normal flow at all, I've had all symptoms as usual. Also it has started on right day, despite missing one last month.

How old are you? Menopause age is hereditary ( of course there can be exceptions.)

If you are having a premature menopause (periods stop or are very few and far between before 40) you need to see your GP for treatment.

Sassydoughnut · 05/03/2018 12:36

Thanks!!! I'm definitely having all the period symptoms, just not bleeding much. That's how my mum started at 40. Two of her sister and mum went through menopause early.

How old are you (not when your mum started :))

Sassydoughnut · 05/03/2018 15:52

40 this month, unfortunately 😁

There is loads online about premature and early menopause. Things have changed a lot re it's treatment; it's now recommended you use HRT up to age 51 at least to prevent various serious diseases that loss of estrogen can cause.

This is a good site. menopausedoctor.co.uk/early-menopause/

Sassydoughnut · 05/03/2018 18:58

I'm not bleeding very heavily. I was also worried, because I had an ectopic in 2013 and worried it was that. But I've had 6 negative pregnancy tests.
Thanks for the replies
