Coughing fits like I am at the moment, I'm literally choking to death and gasping for breath, it's horrendous. My ribs are very sore and I've lost weight I think more water than anything as everytime I cough I pee loads. I've had to buy some pads that's how bad it is. But seriously I'm scared I have some lung problems going on. Dr gave me antibiotics and steroids but sending me for chest X-ray as this has been on and off since Christmas Eve. Currently sat on the toilet coughing and peeing and trying not to wake everyone up although I can hear DH snoring his head off Hmmglad he's not too concerned that I'm choking to death 🙄. I just want to get back to being normal and breathing normal, ahh the things we take for granted.

There have been several nasty viral chest infections going round this winter, such as respiratory syncytial virus and various adenoviruses, all of which can leave patients coughing themselves to exhaustion for weeks or months. It’s also possible to get whooping cough as an adult, which also goes on for months. The CXR is a wise precaution to rule out anything nasty, but if you’re not a smoker or particularly elderly it’s fairly unusual to find anything worrying.
I hope you soon feel a lot better.

Thanks for reassurance Babdoc, I wasn't aware of these going around I'll have a little read about them. I'm 43 and quit my 10 a day habit 18 months ago, no e-cig just quit. I'm generally healthy so hopefully nothing going on. It is very exhausting though!!

Oh no OP :-(

When is the X-ray? And did the GP check your oxygen levels?

Hopefully your antibiotics and steroids will kick in v soon and help you feel much better.

I got one of the nasty bugs last winter, stupidly carried on working and ended up having a stay in hospital - pneumonia and v low oxygen. Until then taking Night Nurse was the only way I could get the coughing to subside long enough to sleep!

Thanks

I was diagnosed with whooping cough just after christmas. Coughed in fits -awful. Dr gave me erythromycin and it was an exyraordinary turnaround.

Also, gave up smoking about 24/5 years ago and got every cold, cough, throat infection going for about 18-24 months. A dr told me it was a common phenomenon.

My X-ray is tomorrow and Oxygen levels were normal and blood pressure normal. I'm hoping the tabs kick in because I'm running out of knickers lol. I have considered night nurse but have little ones and that stuff just knocks me out so I won't hear them if they need me in the night. Only things I can do is sit up in bed and cross my legs 😩 I so need some sunshine!!

Raindrop I was given erythromycin at Christmas, what the hell!! They are lethal those antibiotics, I had a major anxiety attack and terrible stomach cramps, they are known side effects but had to stop taking them.

I do agree about catching colds and viruses easily since giving up smoking, I suppose my lungs are not use to the fresh air. My biggest ever regret is smoking, stupid thing to do 🙄😏😠

Hope the X-ray goes well and glad oxygen ok. V nasty bugs around :-(

Yeah that is the problem with Night Nurse - that was the first time I'd taken it since having children as I was so desperate! Thankfully I had DH here to get up for them, I wouldn't have been able to.

Hope that sunshine finds you soon too!

RaindropsAndSparkles · 28/02/2018 00:14

I didn't have any of that with the erythromycin. I hope you get some answers and get better soon Flowers
