Help! Child with migraine

Hi,

My child has chronic migraine and cannot stand the smell of smoke or perfumes (even the slightest hint on someone's clothes who has been hanging around smoke can set off an episode), and I am unsure what I should do about it?

She attends school where there is a lot of people smoking (in the town centre and the children in school: she doesn't smoke), and she has friends who have both parents smoking - and, due to her being a teen, she insists to go round there to 'chill', but this can lead to a disaster! There is practically no way she can escape smoke/fragrance of any kind when out and about, unless she holds her breath for ages.

Any advice?

Does she have a migraine prescription. If you visit the GP there are lots of things on the market now for both Migraine Treatment and Prevention. When I first had migraine as a teenager there was nothing available,

I don’t know how old she is, but I find Alka Seltzer or Soluble asprin in coke helps with the first stages. Then I have prescription Naramig. If she has nausea, then Buccastem under the tounge or sturgeon seasickness tablets help.

I was diagnosed with chronic migraine aged 10 and have suffered ever since so I sympathise with your daughter.

I assume she has been to the GP but regarding self care, I also recommend anti sickness tablets (I wear sea bands on my wrists too) , targeting the migraine with painkillers at the correct intervals (even if it only takes the edge off) and as much rest in a quiet , dark room as possible. Cold cloth on forehead too.

Sadly there's no cure for me but I hope she finds some relief from her GP.
