Pregnancy scare

Hi,

I've got myself wound up thinking I'm pregnant although I don't see how I can be.

I'm on the pill (microgynon) and my partner also uses condoms every time. So that in itself should ensure I'm quite safe?!

Sometimes I run a couple of packs of the pill back to back, I did run 3 or 4 packs back to back recently but had my period on time 8-11th February. It was on time, had normal period pains etc it was maybe just a bit lighter than normal. The one I had before that was in November (because of running the pill back to back) and that was heavier than normal but I had the lletz treatment and they said my first one could be heavier.

The last week I have felt a bit of colour, a couple of days feeling a bit nausaus but then it passed and my partner also felt sick and one of his boys had slight diarrhoea around that time, and there are bugs going around so I put it down to that.

On Monday night, without going into too much detail, we had sex but also used a vibrator randomly for the first time, at one point I did think oh that hurt for a second but thought nothing of it, then yesterday (Tuesday) late afternoon I went to the toilet and there was a little bit of blood.

It shocked me, I immediately googled and now I've worried myself sick that I could be pregnant. But surely not because my period was on time a month ago and I'm using both the pill and condoms. Please help me to stop worrying?!

I’d say it really doesn’t sound like you are pregnant. You would have to be extremely unlucky to fall pregnant on the pill and also using condoms, plus you had a normal period on time. Have you had a smear test recently? A little bit of bleeding could be something like a cervical erosion (common and not serious). It can cause a little bit of pain and bleeding. A smear test would detect it

uka888 · 21/02/2018 10:36

Yes I had a smear test in October, my first one (I'm 33 and had stupidly put it off) and the smear caused a little bleeding, the test actually came back normal but the doctor wanted me to have a colpscopy to check and there was CIN2 abnormal cells so I had the lletz treatment, I'm due my 6 month check up in April.

I'm at work feeling worried sick, I don't know if I'm actually feeling off colour or if I've just got myself crazily worked up. I was just really shocked to see a bit of blood yesterday afternoon. There has been no blood since but I have had a bit of coloured discharge this morning and it's stinging very slightly down there.

Could I have got an infection from using the vibrator? Could the blood, slight discharge, stinging be early signs of pregnancy? I'm really worried!

I honestly don’t think you are pregnant. Both methods of contraception would have had to have failed at the same time and you would have needed to have been ovulating at that time too. The odds are probably like 1 in a million.
Stinging etc wouldn’t be an early preg sign either.
I’ve had the lletz treatment too and it caused my cervix to be a bit tender for a few months. A cervical erosion sounds most likely as that would cause a bit of bleeding, stinging etc after sex. I remember my nurse saying she sees them very regularly when she does smears

Purplerain101 · 21/02/2018 10:51

And I doubt it’s an infection from the vibrator. Could you have been using it a bit too hard (sorry to be graphic haha) and it maybe bumped your cervix a bit? Doesn’t like an STD infection or anything either if you are in a committed relationship and have been using condoms

uka888 · 21/02/2018 11:11

Thank you, are are helping to calm my nerves whilst I'm panicking at work lol! I don't know why I've got it in my head panicking that I could be pregnant, I think maybe cos my period was a little lighter (but the nurse said the lletz can make them heavier or lighter?!) but it came exactly on time and with the pill and condoms I know it's very unlikely. And because I've had a bit of an upset stomach in the last week or two (but so has my partner and his son), then seeing the blood yesterday I just majorly panicked!
I know I could do a pregnancy test but I'm too scared it will show positive!
I'm also wanting to wee quite often this morning but I am drinking more water than normal hoping it could help clear up whatever it is?!
Does cervical erosion clear up by itself? Should I book a docs appointment? It could be that we used it a little too hard! It does seem strange this has all happened since using it Monday night!
I just really don't want to be pregnant!

I would just take a test. I know it’s stressful but there’s a high chance it will be negative (i’d be completely shocked if it wasn’t) and then it will put your mind at ease.
Cervical erosions don’t usually require any treatment unless they constantly cause pain and bleeding after sex. You can then get the area cauterised. I’d book an appt with your doctor (maybe request a female one incase they want to examine your cervix there and then). They might book you in for a smear test too to make sure everything is ok. It could be something as simple as you or your partner scratching your insides a tiny bit which caused some spotting and stinging pain

uka888 · 21/02/2018 13:41

You are probably right, I ll try and get one after work later. I really hope I've just wound myself up, I always take the pill on time, and we are really careful. I haven't had any other bleeding yet since that little bit late yesterday afternoon.

I'll try and get a test after work I meant not a docs appointment, I'll brave the test and then get a doctors appointment I think. I don't really know how we could've been more careful apart from banning sex!

Keep me updated but I’m pretty sure you’ll just be worrying over nothing (I’ve done it myself lots of times). You might have not 100% healed from the lletz and if you were having reasonably rough sex then it could have just cut it a bit. I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine

uka888 · 21/02/2018 15:47

Thank you, feel so nervous! I keep popping to the toilet just to check for any bleeding/discharge! I still haven't had any bleeding since that bit yesterday and no discharge since that very little this morning. It doesn't sting when i got for a wee (sorry for detail!) but just briefly a few minutes after. I'll try and go through with hopefully getting a test afternoon work.

Hi, I did a pregnancy test from Tesco and it was negative! Felt very relieved.
Last night just before 10pm I went to the toilet and there was v slight blood again then 6am this morning the same. It doesn’t mark my pads/pants it’s just when I wipe I see it (sorry to be graphic!).
I have looked back at my dates as I am trying to stay calm and not over worry (I am a bit of a worrier!).
5th October I had the lletz procedure, didn’t have sex or swimming for 5weeks and seemed to heal well. My first period after lletz 19-23 Oct was on time, a bit heavier more painful than normal but after lletz they said some people get that. Then it seems I ran 5 packs of the pill back to back (didn’t realise it was so many!) then my next period was 8-11 Feb on time just a bit lighter than normal.
I am worrying a little. Do you think I could still be a little tender from the lletz and the vibrator set a of bleeding/discharge off? If it was serious surely I’d be bleeding more?! I have booked a doctors appointment for last thing today.

That’s great you aren’t pregnant.
I wouldn’t worry about anything too sinister. It’s extremely likely you’d have anything awful like cervical cancer as it takes a long time to develop as it’s a slow growing cancer (around 10 years) and you had all pre cancerous cells removed anyway.
Spotting between periods can be a sign of a bit of an hormonal imbalance. Maybe because you ran so many packs of pills together you have a bit of a progesterone imbalance going on (nothing to worry about). The fact you said it was stinging a bit yesterday makes me think it’s most likely to be a cervical erosion, a small cut or you just bumped your cervix too much during sex. Hopefully your doctor will examine you and arrange a proper smear test and maybe check your bloods for hormonal imbalance so your mind can be put to rest. Try not to worry as it honestly doesn’t sound like anything bad. Spotting is very common and most women get it occasionally. Also the older you get the more common it can be

uka888 · 22/02/2018 13:55

Thank you for all your advice! I’m just a bit nervous because I’ve not experienced spotting in between periods before. Do you think the doctor will arrange for another smear now when my last one was 4 months ago and I’m due my check up one in 2 months? It’s going to be quite embarrassing telling her about the vibrator! It does seem a bit of a coincidence this has happened after Monday night. Could the cervical erosion have been there already and the vibrator just caught it?! Did you experience anything like this after your lletz? At least I’m going to the doctors quite quickly I guess.
