Taking zopiclone

I have had chronic insomnia since October 2017 due to behaviour of EA ex.. I have had a horrible day with him trying to insinuate to my parents that I'm mad..

Meanwhile DC and myself have horrible colds. I've taken one zopiclone as prescribed by gp as have been about every three nights to cope with insomnia.. Nothing happening. I'm exhausted... So so tired but wide awake still at the same time.

The dose is 7.5mg. Can I take another one? Medium height /weight female.

No , I wouldn’t take another one . 7.5 is the usual dose . Just try to relax , it will take you off eventually.

Thisimmortalcurl · 20/02/2018 23:59

I read your post wrong .. you have taken for 3 nights with no effect ?
Poor you that’s rubbish , they knock me out and keep me asleep.
If I was you I wound prob half another one and try that.

I've heard of people being prescribed 15mg dose, so I doubt it'd harm you as a one off, but I'd be very concerned about if you have to drive anywhere in the morning, as you'd probably still be impaired?

dirtybadger · 22/02/2018 10:13

15mg if a licensed dose. Last time I checked its licensed for use for up to 2 weeks, then the dose should be returned to 7.5mg.

But you should discuss this with your doctor before you change your dose. You will run out of your tablets quicker doing this and if you havent been honest with your GP in advance, you may then find yourself having to cope for an extended period without any, or with your GO reluctant to represcribe, as zopiclone are misused very frequently.

Just to clairfy, you mean you have been using them every 2-3 nights, not 2-3 nights in a row? Have they been prescribed for "rescue" nights, or every night?

I would speak to your GP. They may change your dose, or try you on another drug. Zopiclone is the most common sleeping tablet but there are plenty of other options.

Thanks @dirtybadger I'm trying to take them only once every 3 days as I'm worried about addictive nature of them.

I'm having a horrible time with ex so do need something to help me sleep though as literally just can't otherwise.

Thanks @danceswithotters sorry to hear about your insomnia. I haven't had it before until October (when things got accute) and then I literally haven't slept without help since then.

Do you know what's in Kirkland tablets? I have tried over counter and prescription antihistamines but they make me groggy for days so can't do them.. Zopiclone I can usually function on next day without too much bother..

I ran out today and have flu so can't collect next lot from chemist until I can get out of the house so its going to be fun this evening!

Available in the UK?

Doxylamine is a sedating antihistamine Fyi.

I was wondering if tolerance might be an issue, if you were using most nights, but if you aren't using them that frequently then obviously not the issue. Flowers

Thanks. Could I ask how much it affects you the next day?

All antihistamines that I've tried leave me zonked for at least a day after taking.

Oh wow! A seasoned professional insomniac.. I had heard about sominex but couldn't get hold of any.. Phenergan were the ones that left me like I was in a loony bin. I'll try the ones you mentioned. Thank you.. Really helpful.

Nikitasol · 22/02/2018 17:22

Just a thought... Are the ones you mentioned addictive?

I take Zopiclone regularly and do not get that hangover feeling. The Kirkland antihistamines, however, wipe me out completely all the following day! Yet...my partner takes the Kirkland most nights with no zombie hangover effects next day. It really is so random 🤷🏼‍♀️

lazydog · 22/02/2018 21:59

Like Happenstance I definitely find doxylamine leaves me groggy the next day. Even more so than diphenhydramine hydrochloride, which works OK for me.

Zopiclone just don't work at all on me - or at least it didn't at the dose I was prescribed at the time.
