Had Aussie Flu - still feeling crap!

I started 11 days ago with what my GP suspected was Aussie Flu. Just woke up one morning & couldn't get out of bed, my entire body felt broken. I was shivering one min, boiling hot the next, in & out of sleep, absolutely felt rubbish. Dr came out the next day & asked if I'd had flu before & I said 'I don't ever remember felling this bad!' She mentioned if I've heard about Aussie Flu on the news & it'll take about week until I felt better.

Anyway about 5 days later I still didn't feel great but I could get up & move, my throat was raging sore though.

Went back to work in the 12th. Still not feeling 100% but a lot better than what I was. Then Wed night I began to get the body aches again, shivering. I've never taken so many tablets before as I have over the last two weeks! (I already take meds for my headaches!)

Then last night I very very peculiar- I'd taken 2 beechams tablets & it felt like my chest was being crushed - I've never felt that before, it was very weird feeling, I very very poorly. I couldn't put my finger on it. Eventually after about 40 mins it wore off.

The same thing happened today - still not feeling great, the aches & pains - the feeling your body is a pin cushion, I took 2 beechams & within minutes, that peculiar feeling happened, like my chest was being crushed, I had to go & lie down. Again it was a good 40 mins until it passed.

My resting heart beat is usually quite high anything from 95-100 - it's been investigated & it appears it's normal for me - when I tested it (ok its on an app on my phone so who knows how accurate these things are) after taking the beechams - it had dropped to 80, it's never been that low.

i wonder if it's worth making an appt with my gp, but at the moment I just feel like I've no energy, my body seems to just be constantly aching, my heads full of cold now. FFS, I just want to feel better!!

Sorry I'm not a doctor but if it was me I'd link it to the tablets and stop taking them.

If the Beechams contains either pseudoephedrine or phenlyephrine they are vaso constrictors. Could you possibly be sensitive to that? Just thinking that would explain a squeezing/crushing sensation around your heart.

Ok, just checked. If it’s Beechams all in onem it contains Phenylephrine which can cause side effects like you describe. However if it amounts to chest pain, you should stop using it and speak to your GP.

Hope you feel better soon. I am on day 6 of Aussie Flu and still in bed. Today is the first day I have been able to string a thought together. Dh has just made me eat something for the first time since Monday, only a few mouthfuls of mashed potato, peas and gravy, but I couldn’t taste it and I feel even more sick now.

moosemama - I hope you feel better soon, it's rubbish isn't it.

It looks like you're right - it could very well be the phenylephrine - they are the Beechams max strength all in one, just been looking on the leaflet & it advises to talk to your GP if you're on Amitriptyline-which I am!

I'm certainly not taking any more of them! It was a bit scary that feeling, will definitely talk to GP . Just my siniuses are blocked now, it never bloody ends! I hate this time of year!

Mine kept coming back like that too - suddenly I needed to lie under a blanket, but then I felt fine again.

TBH it took me about 8 weeks to feel properly better. But I am prone to post viral fatigue.
