A bad day with ds - should I have got him checked out?

We've had such a bad day with ds today. It started with him coming down with conjunctavitis yesterday, so today he has gummy, swollan eyes and absolutely screams blue murder even if he sees the eye drops, let alone when we try to put them in. He then fell off a lowish chair at my Mums while I was at work, and apparently cried far longer than he normally does when he has had a bump, and then at tea time, dp was carrying him downstairs when he slipped and they both fell down the last 4 or 5 stairs.

Ds cried and cried, and then we realised he was bleeding from a cut from the back of his head (we're not sure how he did it, but think he either caught it on the stairgate or dp's watch). There was a lot of blood, the cut isn't too big (about half a cm) but looks fairly deep. In the end we decided it wasn't bad enough to go to the dr. But we've just put him to bed and I know I'll be checking every few minutes

Did we do the right thing by not getting him checked out?

He has eaten and drank some milk since, and is alert (although a bit miserable), hasn't been sick either.

Head wounds bleed lots so the amount of blood isn't an indicator of how bad it was. Has it stopped bleeding? If not, it may need gluing (been there twice with dS2. Twice in one month actually)

If he's alert and hasn't thrown up the advice I was given for head injuries like this is to rouse the child when you go to bed and once in the night.

Thankyou soupy, yes we did rouse him in the night and he is fine. Just has a lovely scab now on the back of his head!!

Thanks for replying, I had logged off before I saw your post last night, didn't think anyone was going to answer!
