Sorry if TMI -DD1 has a slight yellowish discharge which started in the last day or so. Recently she has come home from nursery a couple of times with her pants slightly dirty, either she is trying to wipe herself or the teachers are not being thorough enough. She usually wears a skirt or dress and tights but has been wearing trousers for the last couple of days which may have been rubbing on her and making it worse, she's a bit red around the vulva but doesn't complain of itchiness or pain on peeing. She only gets bathed once a week at the moment but I wash her with water down below every night and use cotton wool with water to wipe if she has a BM at home. If it's thrush would Canesten cream be enough to clear it up or would she need to take something by mouth too? Am loath to take her to docs as she is slightly phobic about them... Would it do any harm to try the cream for a few days and see if it clears up before taking her to docs? Will check for replies tonight, thanks.

I'd not use caneston because it may not be thrush and you might end up doing more harm than good. I used to have this as a little girl all the time and it was usually a water infection (sometimes I'd end up with thrush but only after a while). I'd try and increase her water intake, decrease any sugar intake (less orange or apple juice) and give her some cranberry juice to flush out her system and wait a few days, but if it hasn't cleared up or gets worse I'd go to the docs. Keep her nice and aired down there, with no tights or trousers, just skirts or dresses and change her knickers 2 x a day. Salt water might be an idea, I remember my dad used to give me a salt bath and that would soothe me, just get her to sit in a bit of it, like a shallow bath or washing up bowl.

Check for thread worms. They are very easily picked up at nursery. There is masses of info on MN about thread worms so I won't go over it all again!

thanks both! I did run a search on thrush etc but didnt turn up much - will check for thread worms.
In my medical books it says a white vinegar sitz bath is good too...
