UTI / Kidney Infection?

Currently seeing two hospitals for various issues.

Last week started feeling very dizzy but was end of AF so normally get that and am being tested for anaemia. Was having uti symptoms but started to get worse than I have ever had before, incredibly tired to point felt losing consciousness, very dizzy, dull aches in back, feeling hot. Tried to get antibiotics online and rejected it. Managed to get doctor on phone and he prescribed 7 days antibiotics which I started Friday night called Nitrofurantoin and told me I must call 111 if get more ill at the weekend.

I have taken 3 antibiotics now and I feel my temperature has gone, my dizziness is much better but I still feel unwell and have lots of dull aches in the back and sides. Do you think its fine to just keep taking the antibiotics or I need to call the doctor. I think they are working but a bit nervous as I suspect its kidney and I've never had that before. Doctor thought it was a bad uti but obviously no test done. Have just had kidney function test done so will get results next week. I would much prefer just to see if antibiotics work but is it OK to wait? Thanks for any help. Work have just sent me flowers which is really sweet of them.

Have phoned 111 as these antibiotics just seem to do utis.

Doctor thinks just a uti and I'm imagining symptoms. Hope he's right but not convinced but blood tests back next week which will give a first indicator.

Just sending support as I've also just posted about UTI/ etc. Thanks

Bloody awful isn't it? And also dip tests etc seem unreliable anyway! Arggggh. I'm definitely not imagining these symptoms. Gone from feeling completely fine, to utterly shite. Hmm

Keep taking the anti biotics. I've only got one functioning kidney and get regular UTIs
It probably is connected to your kidney but a course of anti biotics usually sorts me out

Thanks very much. I love doctors who just think you are imagining things. I have lots of other symptoms and they are screening for cancer but he also told me I wouldn't have cancer as I didn't look like someone with cancer and as I was alive and if I had it based on symptoms I would be at stage 4, well that's a great test isn't it? He said I seemed to be worrying about it and the NHS clearly wasn't as they are doing tests slowly. I said I would prefer they did the cancer tests fast then continue on their slow pace. He agreed that makes sense but said you need to go private for that.

Sorry to hear you've got utis too though maybe we have all just imagined them. Wink The antibiotics do seem to help but maybe I imagined that too. He did find I had a temperature so obviously I didn't imagine that. At least blood tests are back this week. He did take about 25 minutes to go through everything tbf but clearly decided anyone worrying must just be mad.

Be prepared for more tests. The blood tests were just the tip of the iceberg for me. Hope they come back clear for you 😊

PenguinsandPandas · 04/02/2018 21:16

Thanks very much. What have you been diagnosed with if you don't mind saying?

Having lots of tests but its all quite slow. Had urodynamics, a bladder and kidney scan and a gynae ultrasound so far plus those 11 blood tests. Results so far are just constant leaking, bladder could only half fill, closing urethra, thickened bladder wall, 2 fibroids one of which appears to have shrunk and otherwise scans clear. Clear smear a month or so ago. Gynae on Tues and cystoscopy on 23/2. Bloods back next week. Fistula between vagina and bladder is being investigated and urologist thinks likely but no obvious cause as children 11 years before symptoms started. Lots of bone pain since September, dizziness, irregular bleeding for 4 years. Bloods should be interesting. I hope its in my head or nothing serious but some symptoms I get woken up with in middle of night so can't see they could be anxiety related and how do you make yourself bleed? Dizziness might be worrying but even then its worse during periods.

I've got very large unremovable kidney stones. They're so bad they've basically killed off my kidney and it no longer functions at all. I'll have to have it removed at some point.

Blood tests were inconclusive I can't remember which one raised concerns but I ended up having x rays, MRI & nuclear scans before I got a diagnosis

Do feel free to PM me if your blood tests show anything up. I'm not using my main account as this could be identifying 😊

PenguinsandPandas · 04/02/2018 21:31

Thanks very much. Sorry to hear about your kidney stones.

Thanks for the offer to PM, may take you up on that if bloods come back abnormal. 2 doctors have said they pick up cancer but I'm not sure how reliable it is as surely otherwise they would just do a blood test. But still will test for kidney function, liver function, thyroid, FBC, menopause and vitamins etc so will give an insight into most things except diabetes. Had them last Wed so not too long to wait now.

It was my ESR test which came back inconclusive I've just remembered

Good luck

PenguinsandPandas · 04/02/2018 21:51

Thanks very much - I don't think that was one of them.

Think its FBC / Thyroid / Liver / Kidney / Vitamin D / FSH / Bones plus 4 more I don't remember, no diabetes only one I was expecting that wasn't there. Only took 3 vials of blood so some maybe be grouped. The kidney ultrasound was clear so that looked good. I have dull ache in them now but doctor said as I wasn't screaming it can't be a kidney infection but never had this before with a uti.

Phoned for blood test results - they are in but will only release 5 out of 11 to me. Hmm

The normal ones are kidney, liver, bone, calcium, cholesterol.

So the ones they won't release yet are FBC, thyroid, vitamin D, FSH plus 2 more I think possibly menopause related but really not sure. I don't know if this implies there's a problem. She said the results all came in today in batches but doctor needs to comment on these 6 but she's not allowed to say why. She implied before she could give out normal results without doctor seeing so suspect some are not normal but we will see. It could be they just have to see them first but didn't get that impression.

Just spoken to the doctor - they have lost some tests definitely FBC and probably lost LH and FSH and vit D.

Results are normal except kidney function and iron of others, not sure why I was told kidney result was normal before. Iron is only a bit low.
