Had fillings yesterdays & keep getting pain!

I had 2 large fillings in my upper left teeth yesterday. One in particular is giving me non-stop 'shooting pains' - my dentist did actually say it was to be expected as the filling was quite deep & i'd experience some 'toothache' over the next couple of days & to just take paracetamol/ibuprofen.

I've took naproxen last night (I get those on prescription for migraines) anadin extra this morning & tried paracetamol this afternoon but non of these seems to help! I can only describe the pain like an electric shock through my tooth- not that I've had an electric shock before! So I definitely think it's nerve pain.

Has anyone else had pain like this from fillings before? How much longer would it be til it settles down? Would clove oil help or make it worse? If it's not settled down by Thursday I think I'll ring the dentist! It's unbearable!! It's almost like I'm biting down on foil! shudders

Sounds like filling might be touching a nerve or tooth needs root canal.Ring dentist in the morning

Mine was the same. It settled down in a week or two.

Is it an amalgam filling? If it is I think it's normal to get that biting on foil feeling for a couple days as they are metal.

I'd go for co-codamol, my dentist always says to avoid ibuprofen/aspirin after dental work in case of bleeding. When I had a root canal, it took around a month to settle and normal fillings I'd say a week. If it's still bothering you, phone the dentist tomorrow and ask for advice.

Well it's Friday & it's still giving me some discomfort. I find it worse in an evening so I'm guessing its because I've been eating throughout the course of the day so there's been more pressure on the tooth.

I really really don't want to go back to the dentist as I fear it may mean it needs root canal 😫 Will give it another few days & fingers crossed it will settle down.

ForTheLoveOfSleep - yes they were amalgam fillings.
