Common cold and diarrhoea

I have yet another horrendous cold at the moment, and have an upset tummy too. Is this common? I seem to get an upset tummy with a cold and just wanted to know if anyone knows why it happens? And is my diarrhoea contagious?
I suffer from IBS so often have bad guts, but they are particularly bad when I have a cold.

DS has been off for two days with it - pretty sure it's swine flu (I remember the symptoms from the first time it was around
