Endometriosis

I’ve been diagnosed with endometriosis at the ancient age of 46. I’ve had a pain in my side for the last 6 years. I initially had various tests on my gall bladder and blood tests and nothing was found. I noticed the pain came when I was getting my period and then would often disappear. But it the last few months it just stayed.
So I went back to the doctor and she send me to a gynaecologist. I’ve had a vaginal ultrasound which found endometriosis. Then a mass of blood tests which were all fine. Then an ultrasound of my bladder, kidneys, gall bladder and liver. There was some sign of endometriosis on my right kidney.
The pain isn’t awful it’s not that bad most of the time. I just really wanted to find out what was wrong with me.
Part of me is still amazed it’s endometriosis because I don’t have heavy periods and I had no problems with fertility. The gynaecologist wanted to operate and have a look around and see if she could remove some of the endometriosis but because the pain isn’t awful I’m reluctant to do that. I wondered if anyone has had an experience like mine.
Thanks.

You may find this very surprising, but what if your Endometriosis is caused by things that you eat, or don't eat ?

Here are some questions to ask your doctor about Endometriosis:

  • What causes it ?
  • How will looking at it and scraping it help me get better ?
  • What can I do to stop it recurring ?
  • Do I have too much Estrogen in my body ?
  • Could my illness be caused by things that I eat, or don't eat ?
  • What can I change about my diet and lifestyle to help my body repair itself ?

Search online for "anti-inflammatory diet"

This and the suggestions below may help you to reduce your pain

Maybe search for 10 local Nutritional Therapists who have had success advising about Endometriosis before choosing which one to work with

  • in the UK search for "BANT"

Alex thanks so much for you reply. Food seems to make no difference but I’m sure I could improve my diet. I’m willing to do anything rather than have to have any sort of operation. I will look into everything you have said. Thanks so much.

I'm the same age as you OP and I had a mirena coil to deal with mine. It works fine, no more pain, very few periods and no operation Smile.

Pappawasarollingbone · 30/01/2018 15:24

Really Milk? Just the random pain? That’s really interesting. The gynaecologist said she would fit a coil at the same time.
Maybe I should think about that.

The mirena has been offered to many women as a treatment for endometriosis but it does not always stop ovulation. Its also not going to address any endometriosis deposits that are already there.

I have a pain in (what feels like) my ovaries post period and mid cycle. It is awful.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 30/01/2018 18:21

It works for a lot of people so don't knock it! As I've said, I have very few periods, they're very light and there's no pain. There's also no sign of any of the deposits that were there before so... 🤷🏼‍♀️

Pappawasarollingbone · 30/01/2018 20:45

Attila I’m sure it doesn’t work for everyone but I’m going to look into it.
I need to do something so I’m going to look into everything...
Thanks for the replies it’s really helpful.
