He was sitting playing in the lounge when he fell sideways onto DS1's train track. Poor thing has a red mark on his head and a raised line where his head hit the plastic track.
I've put a cold compress on it for a few minutes, now he's feeding.
Still seems alert and happy.
Is there any need to call nhs direct or get him looked at? I'm going to keep a close eye on him for a bit to see how he gets on over the next few hrs.

First time DS did this I paniced, but he does it nearly daily now, running into door frames, furniture, toys... just keep an eye on him but I am sure he will be fine

I wouldn't call anyone, just keep checking on him. Both my kids seemed to have rubber skulls as babies, my 2yr still does in fact.

DS2 is always falling from his sitting position but recovers quickly, quick cry and a hug and its all forgotten, but its never left a mark on him for more than a few moments. I'm more concerened that theres the raised mark on him this time iyswim.

Try this link which is a NICE document...page 12 or 13 has a bit about what to look for if its serious! I'm fairly sure it isn't though Head Injury Information

Thanks.
He's gone to sleep now - quite soundly!
Just a red line is visable on his head now.
Will see how he goes, as you said, they do tend to have rubber heads when they're young
