Experiences of prednisolone

I’ll try to keep this brief! I had a chest infection st the beginning of December, had antibiotics and an inhaler. The coughing and breathlessness got slightly better but never really went all over Christmas.
Wheezing and coughing etc came back all guns blazing about 2 weeks ago and I needed another, stronger antibiotic and non stop (it seemed!) use of inhaler.
Went back to the GP on Monday as I couldn’t string a sentence together or walk up the stairs without my chest crackling and wheezing.
I’ve been prescribed 6 prednisolone tablets a day for 5 days, today is day 4 and I’m still struggling, this morning I thought I was going to cough up a lung and breathing out is hurting my chest.
Will the tablets continue to work after the course is finished?
Just looking for advice regarding how long to leave it before going back? Or indeed if I should go back?
I’m possibly just being very impatient and just very aware of being off work.

Definitely go back if you're struggling and the course is nearly finished.

Thanks Dotty
Chest is feeling a bit better today, still very breathless if I do anything so will try to get an appointment later on.

IME preds normally work relatively quickly So I'd definitely make another appointment before the course is finished.

Do get rechecked. It's good that you feel less terrible but it may be you need a few extra days of Pred.

Oh this happened to me OP, awful! I had 3 x 5day courses of pred, and the wheezing came back each time I stopped. I was eventually given another course to stagger... 6 per day, then 5, then 4 etc

It helped a lot but I do still need to use a steroid inhaler now and then.

Hope you’re better soon Flowers

Just a thought....are you taking all of the tablets at once?

rainbowlou · 27/01/2018 09:30

Yes 6 every morning for 5 days, though looking online most people’s doses are staggered.
