Terrified I have lymphoma....any experience?

I have had swollen lymph nodes in my groin, under my arm, and on the back of my neck for a couple of months now. I haven't been ill and they're not painful to the touch... they're just firm feeling.

I'm really worried... I have made the biggest mistake by consulting Dr Google which has told me it's lymphoma. Problem is I can't find many things which cause swollen glands in more than one place Sad

I called to see my doctor and mentioned the swollen lymph nodes and she said it's probably related to a nasty ear infection I had recently as it was quite badly infected. Could this cause lymph nodes to swell like this? Even in the groin?

I had a full blood count done 2 weeks ago which came back as normal - would this be the case if it was lymphoma?

Thanks Smile

I used to have similar worries. It got so bad I paid for a private lymphoma specialist to see me. I was actually feeling my normal lymph glands but I was so thin (from anxiety) they felt large to me. She said if they were raised for several months or larger than 2cm or feel ‘rough’ then it may need double checking. Do any of those apply? They can stay raised for ages after an infection as well.

If you've had full bloods done I'm sure it's fine, make an appointment anyway with your GP though they'll put your mind d st rest

My dad had lymphoma last year. He didn't have hard or painful lymph nodes. His initial presentation was a pain in his side, which he thought was a muscle strain from gardening. Over the course of a week he developed high temperature and general illness, then a blood test was done and his white count was through the roof. He was on chemo by the following afternoon.

That was Birkett's lymphoma which is very aggressive. I don't know much about the other lymphomae, but I know more than I ever wanted to about this one, and it doesn't bear much similarity to what you're experiencing x

My mum had Hodgkin's lymphoma:

Swollen gland in her neck.
Persistent cough.
Night sweats.
Exhaustion.
Dramatic weight loss
Massively high white cell count.

Thank you for the replies. I haven't had any weight loss or other obvious symptoms so I'm hoping there's an explanation other than lymphoma Sad I have terrible health anxiety and this has really set me off. I have booked an appointment for Wednesday to speak to my doctor about my concerns, although I think they may start charging me soon as I'm there so often Blush

I had had terrible health anxiety at times too, I have turned up at A&E in hysterics demanding someone examine my breast - it was a skin tag Blush

I have had panic attacks - many of them - where I genuinely believed I was having a stroke/heart attack/brain bleed. It is terrifying. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

They best way to put your mind at rest when there is an actual symptom is to bite the bullet and go and see your GP, as soon as possible. I hope you are OK OP Flowers

The swollen lymph node on the back of my neck has dramatically reduced in size today so my panic levels have gone down a bit now as pretty sure with lymphoma they increase in size and don't reduce size. I'm wondering if my constant prodding at them is making them swell a bit too Hmm

Health anxiety seriously sucks x

Yes to both of those. Glad it has gone down.
