So the latest is...ds does NOT have hypochondroplasia, but his bone age is accelerated - any knowledgeable MNers around?

I sent Seb's x-rays to Germany, to the German expert for skeletal dysplasias, to have his input.

He's come back saying it's not hypochondroplasia (so another one to cross off the list), his bone age is accelerated. No further explanation what that means or to what syndromes that could point.

Does anybody know anything about this? It's so typical, as soon as one question is answered the next presents itself!

Well, you could google accelerated bone age, which comes up with a number of varying syndromes, but I'm not sure how helpful that would be tbh.

How is the little chap? How is his chest? Is he growing well? He certainly looks cheerful!

Googling symptoms is generally my downfall, I'm trying (but failing!) to steer clear.

Seb is doing okay, his chest is bad again and I'm waiting for the consultant to come up with something to change that, but things are slow and difficult in the NHS...[frustrated]

But he is very happy most of the time and all round lovely!

Oh good heavens Emkana, not another blind alley! Suppose ruling hypo out is a positive but must be so frustrating not to know what is going on. I have no ideas about diagnosis, I'm afraid - can the German expert not give you any more info?

I have heard of delayed bone age - it is where the skeletal development is slower than "normal" for that age - I think it sorts itself out during puberty - which I think may be a bit later with delayed bone age.

Maybe accelerated bone age is the other extreme to that.

I've e/mailed them to ask for more info, and have already asked on the phone, but like all the people I've dealt with so far they're all very VERY reluctant to be drawn on anything, which makes it so bloody

Sorry - you got yet more worry emkana. You just get used to the idea of one thing then something else pops up and bites you on the bum.

The only thing I know about bone age (from dd's ortho experiences) is that it can be different to true age and is affected by puberty. I'd e-mail him if you can and ask what this may point to and where you should go from here.

Did you get a referral to that clinic at GOSH?

HOw is his growth in general? I remember he was a very big boy at birth! He looks flourishing in his pictures.

His growth is okay, but on length he is slowly going down the percentiles - was on the 91st at birth, now on the 50th.
