Enlarged spleen

Hi - looking for reassurance really.

Has anyone been diagnosed with an enlarged spleen and it turned out to be absolutely no problem and went back to normal on its own?

I had an ultrasound because of tummy pain and IBS-like issues and it showed a mildly enlarged spleen (about 13 cms). Complete surprise as I hadn't been having any pain in that area.

Of course, now I know about it I've started having lots of left rib pain and of course Dr Google has had me worried sick.

I go back for another ultrasound on Monday and I'm hoping that my spleen has shrunk back to normal size (but because of the pain I'm worried it might be getting larger). I also went to my GP yesterday and she has ordered a complete set of blood tests to rule out everything.

The fact she took me seriously also worried me as I am so used to going to my GP with vague pain symptoms and being brushed off.

Anyway - I've heard of people who've had an enlarged spleen for years without it being a major health issue so just wanted some reassurance to help me calm myself down!!

Thanks

Hello I had a scan last year for gallstones it showed a mildly enlarged spleen at 13.6 cms . Had a CT which showed 14.6 Cms was having pain to . Referred to Blood specialist. Various battery of tests on blood and body could not find anything then diagnosed with inflammation of ribs !! X

Thank you. That's reassuring. I do have costochondritis - which is inflammation of the ribs, so maybe it's just that. I just started yoga and was stretching myself in all kinds of weird positions which might have inflamed my ribs... :-)

Not sure if you were like me though - I am now so anxious I have been having night sweats, feel like lymph nodes are swollen (they're not) and imagining/having all kinds of symptoms which suggest blood cancer!!

My left rib only started being painful after the lady who did the ultrasound said it was enlarged. So I think it's just my mind playing tricks on me!

I do have health anxiety and have had CBD for that which has been helpful - but I am very easily triggered.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and help put my mind at ease.

Hiya yes as soon as I heard enlarged spleen my mind went mad . My blood canes back normal but as I still had pain my GP referred me on to a lovely consultant . I felt bad for wasting his time but he wanted to rule out any sort of blood cancer . I hope this gets sorted for you soon :-)

Thank you so much. The mind is so powerful isn't it? I'm glad you had a good doctor and you were referred to rule out the worst.

I will sit and wait it out - blood test on Monday, then have to wait a week for results.
Thanks again

Please try not to worry Op - here is the other side of the coin, I was back and forth to my doctors with tiredness, bruising, breathlessness, aches and pains over 2 years. Then I was admitted to hospital with abdominal pain caused by an enlarged spleen and yes I did (do) have blood cancer - BUT the enlarged spleen didn't put in an appearance until late in the day, and was VERY enlarged, not just a bit, so stay cheerful and try not to worry. Hi there

Thank you - I appreciate your very kind words and for offering much-needed perspective. I guess I needed a reminder of how grateful I should be for today!

I'm sorry you've been through such a tough time over the past two years. I very much hope you are on the mend and feeling better?

Thank you again
